We probably have some of the most talented players we've ever had at this club, but as a squad we have little cover or depth. To beat Derby's record already with this squad and the pre-season we've had has been a minor miracle.

I really don't get what you're trying to say here. The 'squad' is every player registered to play for our first team this season, from the kids through to the starters, Tom is part of that squad, as is everyone else.
Youre making out our squad is ****, comparing it to Derbys, jesus. Its not. An ex england international has been sat on the bench for weeks. Now we have another, Mason, sat on the bench.
You've picked the only position where we have any decent cover. How about strikers? full backs? wingers? Which striker could we have brought on yesterday had Diomande needed to come off? We've had kids on the bench for every game this season, if we have such experience and talent in the squad why are they on bench every game without fail?

We have no strikers cos Phelan signed Will sick note Keane. We have no Hernandez cos Phelan ****ed around with Hernandez and pissed him off. We have no Mbokani cos we have shocking discipline in the squad. Again down to Phelan. We have no full backs cos Phelan decided to spunk the money on an unnecessary GK, Ryan ****ing Mason and Weir. Think where that 20 million could have been spent? 3 at the back would have protected an inexperienced Tymon, instead of being beasted by Anichebe. The quality is there we just need it managing properly.

We have no idea what conditions Phelan was working under when those players were signed but I can't imagine he had sufficient time, money or control of the situation to sign the players he wanted. It was either sign those or literally not have enough players to name a full team. I'm not saying it was brilliant recruitment by any stretch of the imagination but it was about the best that could have been done with the time available. You literally just used Mason as an example of the quality and depth of our squad now your slagging him off, make your mind up!
How is it the best we could have done? We needed a Full back. We signed Weir, not a full back. We signed a gk we didnt need. We signed a sick note that was pretty much assured to end in tears, which it did. This isnt hindsight i said it at the time.
How do you know they didn't try to sign a full back? Do you think players were jumping at the chance to come here? How much did Ehab give him to spend? How much was he allowed to offer as wages? How involved in the negotiations was he allowed to be? Unless you can answer all of those with absolute certainty its unfair to be overly critical.
Dont be ridiculous. PL club and every player in the championship knows their wages will almost double coming here.
