100% AGREE on this, the run up is good, not your fancy algarve trips, good hard games against decent sides apart from the gasssss.
"In your dreams mate. You will never get into Premier League" 'This is why I hate em, arrogant tossers..' And me Banksy. Perhaps it's there new stadium and plastic fans joining the bandwagon. So different going to the Dell meeting genuine Saint fans after getting 'steam-rollered' by big Ron Davies and Channon.
Oh Shiny, shiny, shiny - you are only young so I suppose you can be excused for not knowing... Before their finances fell apart in 2005, Southampton were in the top flight 27 years straight and were founder members of the Prem. Not only that, but they had 2 of the best sides I have since in 40 years, the first being at the end of the 70's/early 80's including: Peter Shilton, Kevin Keegan, Mick Channon, Charlie George, Phil Boyer, Alan Ball, Ted McDougall, the Wallace brothers amongst others. Anyone from that era will tell you that that was a real QUALITY side playing some magnificent football. On thart subject, anyone remember the game at The Gate played one evening in that era (when we were also in Div 1) around Christmas time in a real Siberan style blizzard, it was a real (snow) white-out for a bit... I think I remember Southampton won 1-0 Then later, they had teams including James Beattie and Kevin Phillips in their prime, Matt LeTisser, Graham Le Saux and many other quality players so Shiny, although they may have been in the doldrums for the lasst 6/7 years, their pedigree is established and acknowledged... With his stated ambition and the sort of money their owner has, I expect good things from them in the coming years..
yes but thats there history, im not saying thats once ago they were a very good side,i just thought we were getting someone better than them
Tea is tea in a mug or a cup,Prem is Prem if it's Liverpool or QPR,they are there by their own right,I'll watch Southampton and hope we win.
There we go, found the blizzard match - I remember it was Channon who scored, the windmill arm celebration (from that game) still sticks in my mind from even 33 years ago.... http://www.11v11.com/matches/bristol-city-v-southampton-21-december-1979-85083/ By the way, just found this site by accident whilst trawling the net, looks great...
