For what it's worth (and I don't really want to get involved in silly arguments), all Guru did initially was express his opinion on the events in the game. I'm not entirely sure why (and apologies if this seems like I'm attacking you, Rob) Rob decided to make a snide and condescending comment in response to Guru's opinions on the game.
I'm with the Ipswich boys on this one.I think the consequences of a Brazil defeat were just to horrendous to contemplate and the game was fixed to take that into account. The analogy of an Arsenal penalty against Norwich although relevant, raises the question: Do two wrongs make a right? As for the disallowed Croatia goal I would say this. Bollocks!
I do wonder about this site sometimes.. It could be said that we agree/disagree with the poster rather than the post at times.. But I suppose we all sit behind our tribal colours and banners and close ranks when we feel the need. For me, the ref had an average game. I felt he did ok for most of it. You could argue he was a little lenient on Brazil at times, then made one clanger in the penalty and didn't give a red card offence that was probably a bit 50/50 in most referee's opinion. I have definitely seen worse displays and take the penalty out of it we would have barely even noticed him for 90 minutes. Just shows that one decision makes or breaks it for teams, players, fans and officials alike
And Norwich about Danny Haynes handball, what comes around, goes around. At the end of today it would be stupid to say I'm not biased against Norwich because I am an Ipswich fan and its in our nature, just as it the other way around and with every single club in existence. Its called being passionate about your club, being passionate against your biggest rivals and enjoying your club and the game.
exactly. but reading some of the comments above, you'd think it was the worst officiating of all time and that we might as well stop the sport of football because its all a big fix. he had a mixed game, making one very poor call. so that would make him a human referee then. just like all the rest.
Disallowing a perfectly good equaliser for Croatia, not giving a foul against Brazil on the lead up to their 3rd goal, giving the softest penalty you will ever see, not sending off Neymar for a deliberate elbow in the face! Yeah the referee certainly had a 'mixed' game alright!
please read robs post again. none of the decisions were as clear cut as you are making out. i think he got 2 out of 3 correct. if it were clear cut there would be little debate amongst us, given none of us are brazilian or croat, as far as i'm aware!
The worry is that this referee may have set the benchmark for the standard of refereeing we will see at this World Cup! If we have a clown like this reffing the England matches then we know we are fooked!
