Corbyn is toast ... but Labour was a mess before last Friday, this is just hastening things. As it is across all sections of British politics

Thing is Frank, like it or not, the extreme right will see the vote as lending legitimacy to their ideas. They will claim that the majority are behind them even though they're not.
I've always maintained that to me the vote was about much more than the economy. Just as important to me was the type of society I want to be part of - and this isn't it.

Honestly the more this fallout goes on in politics and in society the more hope I get that Brexit won't happen and there will be some kind of extraordinary action taken by Parliament to veto it

I've always said electing Corbyn as leader was a big mistake.

    The warning was :
Don't take a risk of the future of this country. Brexit will mean we will be in unknown territory .

    Response:
Plain scaremongering!! The future will be bright. We will create more jobs.

    Reality:
Pound down and will be for a while. Share prices depressed and will be for a while. Banks relocating. Investment on hold as long as there is uncertainty. If we are lucky we might get away with mild/moderate damage to our economy. No one is predicting a boost to our economy from Brexit even in the long term.

    Foreign observers view (Far East/US):
Worst case of self inflicted damage to a country in recent history.

It's why it would be a very smart move for any of the Tory Brexit guys going for leadership to come out and say if they win they will give automatic citizenship to all foreign workers currently in UK (stress workers).

Start the divorce from the Farage side now the referendum is over.

The right of their party won't be happy but ****, these guys just delivered Brexit...and it will add to the idea of party unity.

Will they be that brave? probably not but it would be a wise move.

There is a petition that you can sign to lobby for another vote. Sadly I don't have the link, but I have signed it. Nearly 3.7 million have.

Can they emulate Nicola? Every day this woman goes up in my estimation as a politician. She said that in her statement on Saturday.

" There is a large diplomatic corps in Edinburgh, including consuls general from several of the major world powers and from other EU member states. She said at her summit with diplomats that she would ask their help in reassuring their nationals living in Scotland that they were welcomed and cherished.
“People from other EU countries who have done us the honour of choosing Scotland as their home are welcome here. I want to make sure that is a message we get across strongly,”

Could Boris or any of his colleagues be able to say that without incurring the wrath of the right wing of their party?

Nailing it here SK. It became symbolic ... vote leave vote intolerance, prejudice, hostility and shutting out / vote remain vote tolerance, openness, acceptance and inclusivity

The Leave result is an enabler for all racists, xenophobics, bigots, louts and idiots of the underclasses who just follow the tide of **** as per

Putting it in political terms Leave was always the conservative right's option (conservative with a small 'c', not the whole Conservative Party of course, outwardly at least) and Remain was always the liberal choice, liberal not meaning left-wing necessarily given Labours confliction over the ref, but simply meaning individual mind-set

Oh they'd be angry but I think this is the only time they'd get away with it..The right got their most important thing..they also know they can't punish them by voting someone else in...as they'd have to go for a remain Tory.

They could sell it as a small price to pay if the right wants to continue the claim that immigration will be controlled now.

But will they do it...probably not.

If we held the referendum again this Thursday I'm dead sure the result would be Remain now by a considerable % margin

Not worth the online paper it's written on. By its own standard it would have to reach about 20+ million. Even 17.5 million is open to the accusation that it's no more than the figure they claim wasn't a clear enough majority....

And it only forces a debate...here's how that will go...

Lemmy: I think we should have another vote.

Everyone else: na the people voted in a format that you agreed with until you lost....

    Debate over.

The far right existed well before this, and will continue to do so no matter what happens - but by voting with them the country has allowed them to claim that they speak with authority for the rest of us.
It's not enough for the mainstream right to divorce itself from them, they have to be thoroughly and strenuously denounced and their racist activities efficiently policed. It has to be made clear that there's no place for this in a civilised society of any colour.
We won't get rid of them, but they need to be pushed back into the sewer where they belong.
All of this is so horribly divisive. I fear we've made a wrong turn down a very bad road.

I saw a quote from Farage from a few months back. He said the vote had to have a decisive margin. He said it it was 52 - 48 remain, there should be another immediate vote. Bring it ****ing on <ok>

When you mention that figure it makes me think how interesting this so called democracy of ours is.
A vote is carried by 17.5 million of a (roughly) 45 million electorate. We're doing something wrong here.

It's not a democracy. Proportional representation is the only way to a democracy

He only said it was if he was defeated by a narrow margin. Obviously doesn't count if he wins by one.
