That 5-1 gets mentioned because it was a demolition, still being relatively young, that was one of the best games of footall i have ever witnessed! up there with Faustino Asprilla's demolition of Barca when he netted a hat-trick and the 5-1 against manc u where albert chipped schmicheal!

You had a good team and we still tore you apart!

Yeah you lot never shut the **** up about that... it was 5-0 by the way not 5-1.

You've been crushed several times since then, I've lost count, they come so frequently that they just blend into one massive mauling. <laugh>

I didn't mean it literally meant nothing, obviously it's still going to be discussed, but it didn't really hurt you lot did it after you bummed them in their own garden?

I don't believe you if you say to me you'd rather have that 5 in a row than win the next (implications exempt for the purposes of this discussion).

Of course there's every chance you can have both... we're just talking hypothetically.

You don't have to mate. Without that 5 in row we'd have been relegated twice. Of course I'd rather have that 5 in row than win the next. They're going to win sooner of later, it's just inevitable. And when they do, my smug grin will remain. ;)

What about planes flying past with banners?

There'll be another one sent up if they win the 6th in a row.

I've no issue with banter and bragging rights. They have well and truly been Sunderlands for the past few seasons despite us finishing above them every season. If we win at the weekend there will only be relief from me rather than bragging - I want the points and a brief respite from Sunderland derby day dominance. As for the plane message I actually thought that was cringe-worthy given the situation Sunderland were in at the time, came across as a few fans more interested in their rivals than themselves but that's just my opinion.

I said implications exempt!

If they beat you and you go down when 3 points would have kept you up, that smug grin will be fairly worthless though.

I guess I know how you feel, I'd not trade our last 20 titles record for the next one, but given your circumstances I'd have thought this one means more than a record.

You sound like a scouser Bri, living on past glories <laugh>

Having said that, without 5 in a row you can't make it 6 in a row... so all the best, may the best team win and all that ****. <ok>

Thank you for proving my point. You mentioned it twice today and there's been so much chicken dance talk on your board it's unreal. Clutching for half a decade, I think we can lose 1 after our total dominance of the the last 5 with the 10-1 aggregate score without losing face. I won't anyway. :D

To be fair a lot of Sunderland fans thought the same about the banner.

How can you get the scoreline wrong?!?!

As for Tinos "demolition" of Barca, it was 3-2. Total demolition that!

You're wrong on both counts anyway. Newcastles best game by a landslide in the past 20 years was Feyenoord 2 Newcastle 3. Awesome.

Newcastle 4-4 Arsenal

That has to be the most ridiculous game of the PL era.

Cracking call! Everything about that second half was ridiculous included the two offside calls (one wrongly against Leon Best and one correctly against Van Persie). Tiote scoring the screaming winner - just crazy.

The Feyenoord game was the culmination of a lot of things though. We had lost the first three games in the Champions League group stage and no team had ever gone through from that. We then beat Juventus (when they were good), Dinamo Kiev and needed to beat Feyenoord away in our final game. 2-0 up and then 2-2, then in the 89th(ish) minute Bellamy scored a goal he had no right to score. Pandemonium and qualification to the furthest point we've been in Europe in my lifetime.

That was the same season we beat Real Madrid 4-3 Ronaldo scored a hat trick for them and they went through on agg. Amazing game.

Two group stages FFS what was all that about?

We hammered Juve at their place as well IIRC in the 2nd group stage.

Never been one for bragging rights. Its like I wouldn't brag if I won £1000 on the lottery, because I know that within days my home boiler would explode and the £1000 which would have been safely tucked away in the cupboard next to the boiler would be confetti. When Sunderland beat Newcastle I merely have a satisfied feeling of smugness, I don't like to harp on about it. Cos I know that at some point it would bite me on the arse further down the line. Why brag anyway? I didn't do anything! If it was me who scored the winning goal with a screamer from 30 yards out then I would brag about it. Whats the point in bragging over something that is out of my control.

You shouldn't hide it on the boiler, you should put it in a polythene bag and sellotape it to the bottom of the cistern ;)

Well if implications are exempt sure potential implications are exempt.;)

It's not past glories either mate. It's present glory. You're saying a future event makes me living off past glories, presently. which is bizarre concept but funny.

Tel, the way the Mags have dominated us throughout my life I wouldn't change the 5 in row for the world, apart from making it 6 of course. I don't care if you don't believe me. I don't do bullshit mate. Until that 5 in a row, derby's with them were isolated wins surrounded with prolonged misery which has spanned decades which proceeds my birth.

I was born in 81. Until the 5 in a row came along we'd beaten them 4 times in my entire life time. Of course I'd rather have the 5 in a row than win the next

Really surprised you don't get that tbh marra.

The second group stage was almost as good for us but not quite. First game we lost 4-1 at home and had both our strikers (Shearer and Bellamy) suspended for the next 3 games. There can't have been many worse starts to a group stage in Champions League history. We almost went through though (got 7 points and were a whisker off 9) from a group with Barcelona, Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen (the season after they were finalists).

Nah I get what you're saying a bit and I see where your logic is coming from but with a new manager, here to put some foundations in place, build a new side and finally dig my team out of a massive, gargantuan slump, I'd be more inclined to swap the previous 5 for 3 points Sunday... like I say though, it's not a choice you have to make, we're all talking hypothetically.

To me, City come a distant third behind winning and beating Liverpool. They can have the 6-1 and other subsequent victories, I'll take the 3 points Sunday and hope that we kick on from there to achieve our objective for the season, or better with a bit of luck.

Yeah Bobby Robson had your side playing well, then he had a dip and you slipped out of the qualifiers IIRC and he was shortly after that, sacked.

He'd have won the league in the mid-90's with Keegan's side, Keegan was nowhere near man enough to joust with Fergie. Fergie respected Robson with every fiber of his being.
