Debuchy is alot more attack minded than Simpson. Simpsons biggest problem is is backing off from an opponent.

To be honest he's not done that, that much this season. 90% of his recent bad games have been when the rest of the team have been ****.

He gets a lot of undeserved ****. He's a solid RB, but we should try and sign better for our level.

I hope he stays, he'd be a fantastic 3rd choice, and to be honest, he's definitely currently more solid at the back than Santon.

Santon is the better all round player, no doubt, but Simpson has experience, he can read the game well, and tackle well.

Santon's tactical side of the game still needs a lot of work.

Debuchy and ben arfa were very good together against iceland, i know iceland are not prem standard but its a good sign, i dont see it as a problem him being attack minded, santons attacking minded and i think Debuchy is more tactically aware then santon!

He may have been very attack minded but he was also very good in his defensive duties aswell, noticed that he doesn't give his opponents much room and that hes not scared to put a crunching tackle in if need be.

Thing is though it might be better us buying a new left back and moving Santon over to his natural side.

If only Debuchy was a LB, he would the perfect signing that we need IMO.

That's what CDM's are supposed to do when you have attacking full backs in the side, and its what people fail to see when Ashley Cole or Glen Johnson get caught high up the pitch by a counter attack. They are guaranteed to be too high up the pitch from time to time to get back into their defensive position, so its up to the centre backs and defensive midfielders to plug the gap.

I thought going forward he was very good. Defensively he looked solid but I dont think he was really tested against England last night.

Have to say everyone I watched with last night was a Newcastle supporter. About 30mins in we all looked at each other and said "yep that's him not coming to us" I think he'll get a really big offer now. Indeed I would not be surprised to see him rock up at Man U.

To be truthful I'm expecting this too. I really think that a CL club would be daft not to pounch for such a talented player. My only hope is that this maybe could have bee said for Cabaye and we managed to sign him.

Might not fit in to the 4-3-3 but if we went into a 3-4-3 this could work:

    Krul

    Colo---Saylor---Douglas

    Santon--cabaye--Tiote--Debuchy

    HBA---Cisse---BA/Elia/someone

Indeed. Beresford once famously said... 'we never trained in defending... just attack, attack, attack'

As much as he looks unlikely to join us now, although that could depend on how he continues in the tourney, there are two factors involved here, one for and one against us.

Against us - The fact we're in for him. I wonder these days if the fact we're showing an active interest in a player alerts other clubs to their quality. Clubs will know that we've done our homework, and could potentially hijack our attempts to sign.

For us - Cabaye. They're quite clearly best mates. They've come through the Lille academy together, and even stood next to each other for their anthem yesterday. He could have a major influence on where Debuchy ends up.

I'm not really disagreeing with you mate. That's why I loved our 4-2-1-3 formation, It gave our wingers more freedom to attack, and our fullbacks a bit more security.

But what I'm saying is we have a great, quality winger in Hatem Ben Arfa, but he's **** at defending really. We need to let him loose and can't give him too much defensive responsibility, and a very attacking RB might not help.

If we have Debuchy/Santon + HBA on one wing, we could get caught out a lot, and we can't rely THAT much on CDMs, we need players to know their positions, which is why I'm saying Debuchy, if he signs, should know his role. I'm not saying he shouldn't go forward but he should calm down a bit.

I saw him further up the pitch than anyone else for a lot of the Eng vs France game yesterday. He'll need to get used to a more defensive role.
