According to my mother (RIP) - one of her great uncles on her father's side was a caddy @ St.Andrews and won one of the earliest British Opens. His photo in said book bears an uncanny resemblance to my maternal grandfather. My mother was occasionally prone to spinning a yarn & I have not yet proved the provenance of the tale. It did however take prominance in a speech at her funeral 20 odd years ago.
I still have a couple of clubs that belonged to my maternal grandfather and a couple of trophy's won by my paternal grandfather. Must have both been decent larkers - unlike myself - reasonable hacker.
When I spot them at garage sales or in certain antique stores, I pick up the odd club for my collection. They are not easy to play a round with !
