Seeing as race drivers are allowed, this isn't really important anymore but ItaliaRacing reports that Ferrari's original plans for the young driver test was to have Davide Rigon to drive for two days (they say he's been doing a lot of work in the simulator to prepare for the test), and Raffaele Marciello drive the third day. They also said that to prepare Marciello for the YDT, he did some laps at Fiorano in the F10 last week and despite some problems with his height (182 cm), the results were encouraging.

It would be nice to see Ferrari share the three days equally between Alonso, Massa and Marciello but I can't see that happening.

I'd like to see Da Costa and Magnussen get a day too. I can't see Red Bull running Da Costa, but McLaren don't have a lot to lose by giving Magnussen a drive.

I'd like the FIA to organise another young driver's test at some point this season to make out for this one being opened up to race drivers, it's not fair that some of the young drivers have to miss out because the current political and tyre situation in F1 is a mess.

Rivola buries chances of Marciello driving: "Obviously, this test will be carried out with the actual race drivers, as there would be no sense in trying something new with youngsters at the wheel, who do not have the necessary experience to provide the required feedback"

This test is a joke.

If you use current drivers, you can only use one type of tyre and with no set-up changes. Alonso said to Spanish media that he won't be there unless Ferrari need him because "I'm not a Pirelli tester". Button doesn't see the point of it either: "If it is just running one type of tyre then it is not tyre testing, it is just running around - so I don't think I will do it. I have driven Silverstone enough." What's the point of allowing race drivers if they can't do any proper testing?

You can only develop the car if you use young drivers - which encourages teams to use their simulator/test drivers (Paffett, Rigon) who have no chance of being F1 drivers.

FIA clarifies their position on the young driver test:

FIA eases restrictions on F1 race driver roles in young driver test

Formula 1 race drivers will not be restricted to exclusive tyre work at the young driver test, following a clarification from the FIA.

After a number of racers questioned the value of taking part in the Silverstone test on July 17-19 because they could not work on car set-up, motor racing's governing body issued a note to teams at the Nurburgring about what is and is not allowed.

Although the original stipulation still stands that race drivers can only take part in the test if they are not involved in car developments, the FIA has agreed that racers taking part will now be allowed to work on car balance with the new tyres.

A spokesman for the governing body told AUTOSPORT: "We can confirm that, as only one specification of tyre will be available for the test, it will not be necessary for the teams to satisfy us that race drivers are taking part for the sole purpose of testing tyres for the appointed tyre supplier."

Following discussions in the Sporting Working Committee meeting at the Nurburgring on Wednesday, it has already been agreed that race drivers can only take part in one full day of testing.

Teams do, however, have the option of splitting their race driver mileage into two half-days.

Jenson Button was one of several drivers who had questioned the value of taking part of the test if he was not allowed to even work on car set-up, which had appeared likely before the FIA clarification.

"If it is just running one type of tyre then it is not tyre testing, it is just running around - so I don't think I will do it," said the McLaren driver. "I have driven Silverstone enough."

McLaren sporting director Sam Michael said that despite the FIA clarification his outfit was still unsure about which drivers it would run.

"I don't know yet," he said. "Let's get through this weekend and work out if it is useful to have race drivers there, or we just do the test with the test drivers.

"They don't need any laps around Silverstone to learn the track, so it is what they [the racers] can contribute."

Pirelli has revealed that it will be bringing two different compounds to the test, with three sets of hard tyres and two sets of medium tyres available per car per day.

Unfortunately.....

Susie Wolff will drive Williams' 2013 car during the young driver test at Silverstone later this month.

The news is being reported by Germany's Bild newspaper and the specialist Auto Motor und Sport, while her husband and Williams co-owner Toto Wolff confirmed: "She is tremendously glad about it."

Scotland-born Wolff, 30, is already the famous British team's test driver, but her participation at Silverstone - her first proper circuit test in a F1 car - was not assured until now.

The German publications said her test in the Renault-powered FW35 will be the first official F1 action for a female driver since Giovanna Amati in 1992.

Auto Motor und Sport said Wolff, a former DTM driver who until now has been limited to simulator and aerodynamic test runs, will drive on the first of the three-day test.

I wonder how much time there will be between Toto selling the last of his Williams shares and Susie being told **** off.

Marussia have revealed their driver line-up for the YDT:

July 17th - Tio Ellinas
July 18th - Rodolfo Gonzalez
July 19th - Rodolfo Gonzalez

Marca say Alonso is not scheduled to take part in the test, despite the recent FIA clarification. They say that although things can change, it's currently going to be Massa, de la Rosa and Rigon doing the testing. Domenicali says: "We'll decide in the coming days"

Thats odd, is Domenicali bluffing with other teams? Why would you not want your lead driver testing the tyres that will be used from now on?

Anyone going down to watch this (or up for you southerners)? Assuming the weather holds I think I'll do a day in the sunshine with the backdrop of the occasional F1 car :D
