Just got back from a boiling Silverstone - what a great day's testing it was.
I was at Woodcote and saw Daniil Kyvat and Giedo van der Garde spin into the gravel. Also saw Rodolfo Gonzalez spin and the whole grandstand began a moment's applause!
The Sauber definitely looked the twitchiest I thought and Force India probably the most planted. Most of Susie's laps came from single-lap runs as she was practising pitstops, whilst the Caterham and Ferrari were going for very long stints. I thought Sainz looked on edge most of the time and I always felt he could spin it at any moment.
BLS, did you do the pitlane walkabout as well? The queue may have been horrendous, but it was great to be able to walk out onto the track and then wander down the pitlane looking at mostly showcars, but the 2013 Caterham was on display and you could see the mechanics working on the Williams. I even picked up a couple of pieces of Pirelli rubber from the pit straight!
It was the first time I had been to a test day since 2005 (I used to go quite often) and this was miles better - the cars stayed out right to the very end of the day and there was always some action.
Was perfect weather wasn't it, warm enough in the grandstand shade and very warm when I ventured to the general admission area's
We could well have been sitting seat apart most of the day. I wandered around everywhere we could get to but spent most of my time in Woodcote A and the GA area around Luffield. I had to bolt before the pitwalk sadly, had some house moving to go help with. Was probably the main reason I went as I live 3 hours from Silverstone but the house move was less than an hour away. Was pretty odd to leave Silverstone with no traffic issues, I left the stands at 5 and was probably at the M1 by half past.
If they do in season testing next season I will definitely go again if the weather is pleasant, was a nice day in the sun with screaming cars for company, was good practice for photography at Hungary to
