I for one don't think we'll challenge. Not the way we play, no way. And I can not see a young 19 year old with an enormous price tag in a new country affecting that too much.
With van gaal as coach we have no chance. With another coach and same squad we might have a 40% chance.

It's not just the squad but also the manager. if united and say Chelsea or man city are in tussle to sign a top class player, there are great chances the player will choose to play for mourinho or pellegrini than play for van gaal. Going by his falling out with many players and his 'philosophee' I can't really see top players wanting to play for him
Also why keep Grinch until the last hours if Bale isn't part of the deal? Had this been Moyes (coupled with the money spent, and 'quality' of performances) he'd have been lynched outside of Old Trafford by now.
