    Ah, blast from the past. Minchella's of South Shields? Used to love being taken down shields/Marsden as a kid. day on the beach/in the sea with a packed lunch followed-up by a Minchela's before the drive home. felt like an adventure every time....happy days.

    Went there on Sunday - couldn't resist the giant tub, scoffed the lot in one go!! Definitely the best outside Italy.

    The first vans I remember were Walls. They were solid blocks of ice cream. The first of the soft kind was possibly Notarianni in Crowtree Road at the top of the old bus station.

    Whippy was the one pretty much took over the vans.
