On the one hand it's a friendly and does not matter. However, it's also about getting into winning ways mentality.
We're all excited pre-season to one degree or another but a good display and preferably a win, especially with the home advantage, is highly desirable.
I've never done the stats but often seems the first game sets the tone for the season.

We need a (goal-scoring) forward.

There......its written for about the 250th time.

Lets hope Les and Jimmy (both forwards in their playing days remember) can actually fathom this endless, baffling mystery out <doh>:1980_boogie_down:

We have need a decent striker for some time now. Even when we had Charlie we needed another goal scorer. No excuses now they need to get their wallet out and get a goal scorer or we will end up bottom half

WELL WHEN I SAID THAT CONNOR AND THE BFG ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH YOU GUYS DIDNT AGREE WITH ME,I HOPE YOU NOW AGREE WE NEED
2 STRIKERS OR ELSE WE ARE FXXXED

I'm certain Les and Jimmy know that.
Surely it's a question of supply and demand and, linked with that, wages.
20 goal per season strikers are wanted by ALL clubs and there just aren't enough of them. They will go to the club's flashing the cash (as we tried with limited success sadly) and who have a better prospect of promotion with no FFP still unresolved.
Though it pains me to say, we are not an attractive prospect for a proven striker.
We might be in a few years when FFP is cleared,we've been top half for a.few seasons and look more like a club going places instead of pulling ourselves out of the mire by our boot straps.
As ever, hope I'm wrong and this season brings success!

Crystal Palace fans wouldn't agree with you after the start they had last season

They don't grow on trees. We've just spent £3m or so on a striker who many have written off. Are we in a position to go out and spend £5m and however much on wages for this mythical goal machine we need? What does £5m get you nowadays? Half a Dwight Gayle?

Not the most reliable of sources but The Mirror report that the three relegated clubs are after McCormack for £13m. He's 30 in a few weeks. That's the market we are in.

That's rubbish because i have never rated Polter Washington or Mackie and i have been vocal about it for some time. I have also been vocal about JFH.

If anyone Chery is the likely highest scorer in the current squad. 12-15 if we are lucky. Polter double figures just. Washington who knows, he's meant to be prolific but he better start soon. Mackie, nothing expected.
