China would definitely back Russia up if push comes to shove.

Why are you saying sanctions are not enough? The options are sanctions or military force. I don't know about you but I've got no appetite for our country to go to war, again.

Sanctions are not enough but the west are to feeble to go to war. I don't want war but I think we should strike now (with force)
Putin is playing up to win favour with the electorate.

And yet it’s the Tories and Boris sitting on a report about Russian influence in our elections and have taken donations from russia regularly.

"Russian Influence" ! To what end exactly?

You are aware that up to twenty Labour MPs are long standing opponents of NATO? And still oppose it today. Perhaps Starmer will remove the whip from them? That Corbyn (and others) have openly supported every Russian atrocity for years?

No doubt at all that there have been donations flying around to venal MPs , though if you think they are all in one direction you should have a look at the record, though it is fair to say that many Labour MPs need no encouragement to parrot the Kremlin line on anything.
 
It was the Labour party who wouldn't say a bad word about Skripal being "attacked" on UK soil in 2018. They were having none of it!
 
If this all gets out of hand and things turn nuclear, (god forbid) but I wonder how prepared we’d be and whether society as we know it, would come out of the other side.
 
Not sure sanctions have ever stopped any nation from pursuing its ambitions ever in the history of sanctions. Smashing the **** out of them militarily however does appear to have the desired effect.
However there’s nothing to be gained from NATO troops being on the ground in Ukraine. Which is why we won’t bother with that unless it looks like Russia are being emboldened by how easy it was to install their own government in Kiev and decide to keep rolling west to see how far they can get before any of us realise.

Just watching the news now, Ukraines military ready for the fight apparently. But they are still sat on their thumbs while Russia are invading the eastern regions that have been declared Russian republics. I don’t see anything other than the west pumping hundreds of millions into Ukraine and the military dropping all the kit we have bought them while heading into Europe to hide. This won’t be a bloody battle unless nato make it such. It’s going to be an easy route into Kiev, the roads will be nice and quiet as Ukraine won’t put up much resistance.

I remember the Iraqi republican guard - a fearsome bunch who left their boots on the battlefield and ran away as soon as the Yanks and Brits turned up for a ruck.

It was also nice to hear our military commanders talking about kicking arse in a meeting with the defence minister. We need to be bold and put bullies in their place no matter who they are and we still have the finest military in the world with the best training that’s still a very formidable force and not one to be messed with. Putin needs to remember that.
 
But but but covid has now gone away, my shout is that suddenly hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians will arrive in the uk with grants from the government of say £10000 each with ties to newly formed Tory companies
 
The west is too timid. Like you said already the Russians have invaded the eastern area of Ukraine yet they have had no real resistance. Simply supplying Ukraine with modern weapons isn't enough.
 
Still time for someone to request a UN Peacekeeping force be deployed - do you think Turkey could be persuaded? Or maybe China?
