I used to follow Wrexham years ago and attend some home and away games.
Local side although not the nearest,
Chester is nearer but fook them wánkers :D.

Anyway I've been watching their takeover with interest and it came about because of the Netflix series
"Sunderland till I die".
So for me it's nice to see both clubs benefitting from the series.
I know some say the series held us back at the time.
Certainly some of the players did say that.
But ultimately I think it's helped us immensely in the long run now KLD is here.

Good luck to Wrexham and here's the latest.

Aged 8, I think I was the only kid in my school who supported Sunderland in the 1973 FA Cup Final, most (being Liverpool, Everton or Man U) had no interest in the game at all. This is the first game I remember and I had nobody to wind-up about it!

Many kids around here in NE Wales grew up supporting a First Division team and when you could actually be allowed to go and watch on your own once you turned 11 or 12 at high school one of the issues faced by us kids who supported big teams a long way away was being labelled a plastic fan because you could never get to watch them live.

Most began to also follow a local side that you could get to - the choice was Chester or Wrexham - and both were in Div 3 at the time so it was good for friendly rivalry as there was also the national border to spice things up - especially when both clubs played in the Welsh Cup - along with other lower league border teams like Tranmere, Crewe and Shrewsbury.

My choice was complicated. I started off being a home birth, got stuck and was rushed to hospital in Chester to be born by C-section, so my birth certificate says I am English, but I am literally part Welsh and part English and have siblings born in both countries and with a Welsh grandfather, born in Wrexham, I could have qualified to play for Wales.

For me it was easier to get to the The Racecourse than Sealand Road and as I had a grandfather from there, I spent many an afternoon on the Crispin Lane (Kop) end supporting Wrexham (and Wales) in Div 3 as a teen and sometimes went along to Sealand Rd to watch Chester when Wrexham were away.

But we all remembered this was always secondary to supporting your main team and also, for me, England.

I finally first got to watch Sunderland at The Racecourse in Div 2 in the 1978-79 season and of course during my years at Sunderland Poly.

I still have a soft spot for Wrexham, but stopped going to games when they were bankrupted in 2006.

Nah, sometimes went with my mate Anthony Matthews at school but most often with my brother in law and nephews.

Got to say, the situation at Wrexham is really intriguing, especially with the STID link, and it is going to be interesting comparing their progress with Sunderland's.

It was interesting to see how straight away they were offered a big promotion bonus and when they lost their two main strikers a month ago how they went straight into the free market to replace them.

Nice story what's happened at Wrexham. I doubt the two blokes know the first thing about football but they seem intelligent and engaging and they've certainly got enough cash.

There's a great tv show on Apple called Ted Lasso where an American takes over a London club as manager, reminds me of that a bit.

I thought Ted Lasso sounded awful. Then I watched it and its brilliant!

I was a Chester season ticket holder for years, Nig. Last saw them play Wrexham about 40 years ago when Spider Mellor got the winner in a 2-1 win at your place. Glorious!

Forgot about that.
I remember as kids cycling to chester along sealand road.
It was a wet miserable day.
There was road cones all along the road coming in and Les was in front (older than me lol) riding his cowhorn handlebar racer. :D
Me second on my orange Eddie merckz and scouse, (even older but behind me lol)
Les was kicking every cone over so I was catching him.
Then he missed one and I'd picked up speed and put my foot right through it.
Straight up in the air and twàtted scouse on the head <laugh>

Wrexham, with a play-off position in their own hands going in to the final day, go full on Sunderland by contriving to have a half time substitute centre-half sent off on 56 minutes.

Ah well, that's both high profile take over sides sent back to their drawing board to try again next season!
