I'd love to put Darren Bent in that team. One of my least favourite people to have played for Spurs, shame he scored a few goals though. Does raise the possibility of countless other teams: Unpopular XI Popular XI Unjustifiably popular XI Unjustifiably unpopular XI Does Gomes make the list? I know some fans on here go berserk at the mention of his name. I've always quite liked him despite his flaws, personally I thought he was an improvement on the last couple of years of Robbo, after the media destroyed his confidence in the England own goal incident.
HBIC great list! Did you really just type that out off the top of your head? Or did you have it saved from a previous thread? Good work either way! Neale Fenn I forgot him too. If we went for the formation of 3 up front, a Fenn - Allen - Booth combo would take some beating! WY - I like the idea of that list. Sounds bad but an unpopular list for people's varying reason sounds more interesting than a popular one! On your comments on Gomes I always gave him the benefit of the doubt until the Chelsea game when he let Lampards' shot through his hands and onto the line. Ok he did get back and save it (even though a goal was given) but it was still a terrible bit of keeping and we were looking comfortable up until that point. Robinson I liked as a person but he was dogshit at long range shots. Guaranteed he would let in almost one a match.
Chris Gunter, was quite ****. Bunjeecordovic...first name was Gory, or if it wasn't, it should have been. Peter Beadle from Gillingham in 92 may aswell have been Jeremy.
Looking through a list online I saw we signed a brazilian in 2004, Rodrigo Defendi.....a forward! ...no, I don't know where he played, anyone remember him? must be in this category if no-one does.
Yeah I remember him, he was a centre-back, had a few injury problems and we let him go. Had a short spell with Roma afterwards but never made it as a footballer I don't believe. EDIT: Just looked him up - seems he's 'playing' for Botafogo these days. Last year was his first season of note making a fair few appearances for Vitoria in Portugal. http://www.transfermarkt.com/en/rodrigo-defendi/transfers/spieler_18981.html
I shall test your resolve with another 2004 transfer, Spase Divelski from PSV...endless possibilities here with those names!...what were the parents thinking of!
Heres a few older names for consideration, Barry Daines, Keith Osgood, John Lacy, Ally Dick, Mark Kendall, Gary O'Reilly, Paul Moran, Moussa Saib
I reckon Gomes for unjustifiably popular. He was good for a while, but then errors crushed his confidence. Liked more than he should be
Sort of funny that his name came up so quickly on this thread but for me Dean Austin is a sort of archetype of Spurs-shaped crapness for me. Mainly because he was pretty much a guaranteed starter for so long. Oh - just looked him up and was surprised to see he was only at the club for six years. It felt a lot longer. Mitchell Thomas, anyone? I was young but I remember it being one of my first solid realizations that some professional footballers look a lot worse than others. Out of all the strikers mentioned I think it's got to be Rasiak for me. Simply because, unlike Rory Allen, he actually cost money. I never had less faith in any Spurs player to have any sort of positive impact on a game. He looked utterly out of his element. Who mentioned Chimbonda?! I liked him! Freund and Zokora are nowhere near a worst 11 but both were yellow-card machines who couldn't pass or shoot. And both got away with it by their tub-thumping and crowd-baiting. Wasn't Thelwell a winger? Or a full-back? I'm sure I rated him at one point. And I thought Ricketts looked quality for a while. Sad thing is - he probably did compared to the rest of the Spurs team at the time. A team whose most dangerous player was the right-back. Oh yeah and Gilberto...Put it this way - it is AMAZING that he got to seven games for us. Perhaps my memory is playing tricks on me but I'm sure he was really, disasterously **** in every single one. I'm talking like "pass it to the other team's striker a couple of times" level of ****. Every game.
I remember that Name, from football manager 2006 or there about's,Ithink he was a free transfer player then
I remember watching a pre season game just after Rodrigo Defendi had signed for us. He got nutmegged and then outpaced by a 15 stone non league player. Clive Allen turned to Hans Segers on the bench and said "who the ****ing hell signed this load of crap". .
There was another classic from the very same pre season game. We had Emill Halfriedsson playing who HBIC has named in his crap players list. Halfriedsson was playing left wing and went to cross the ball too the unmarked Lee Barnard in he middle. He sliced the cross and the ball ended up stuck in a tree behind the goal. Clive Allen yelled out "Emill, you're ****ing ****". .
David Jenkins who we signed from Arsenal in the 60s in a deal where Jimmy Robertson went the other way. On his debut he was given the ball about 10 yards infield on the halfway line with no one near him. He ran straight off the field with it and his performance went downhill from there. I dont think he got picked much after that
Sol Campbell is more than a twat Spurm. If we did a "players you dislike" team I am pretty sure he would be a unanimous choice as captain.
Steffen Freund and Gary Doherty spring to mind for this one... Defendi was like Hallfredsson - signed to add competition for places, but never come close to a first team appearance (same goes for David Limbersky, who Jol compared to a young Pavel Nedved...but never played him) Jeez, I'd actually blocked him from my memory completely.
