I always feel like all our fans wanted him to be good so we kind of pretended he was. I don't think he deserves to be in a "worst XI" though.
How could I forget. One of the weirdest signings we made, no one even rated him in Portugal when we bought him
That was a fairly low point when we had Gardner and Doherty playing in the same team. It was when Arsenal were bloody good as well which didn't help!
Chris Armstrong? Started very slow, got ok but never had much quality other than rivalling Bolt in speed
Chris Armstrong is fairly harsh when you have Rory Allen, Andy Booth etc. I would put Armstrong on a similar level to Iversen. They were mid table strikers which is what we were back then.
Bobby mimms, purely for the shocker away to QPR when he let a weak shot through his legs. Ghaly for throwing the shirt on the ground.
I may be in the minority here but I wasn't that bothered that Ghaly did that. He was just frustrated at being taken off not making an anti Spurs statement. I thought he was an OK player as well. Better than that other useless Egyptian lump Mido who had a lucky purple patch and was then complete ****.
Agreed, ghaly can't go in for that goal vs Chelsea alone. Poorly thought out action but not a terrible player
Terrible bloody driver as well, nearly run me over in Chigwell one day in that bloody stupid big American Hummer he used to drive.
Yeah I remember that. It was a great goal. Shame we blew a 3-1 lead. Really felt like a loss. I think Shevchenko got a worldy in the replay to knock us out as well.
CJ, Spurm You are both right, I was harsh including Ghaly. He actually had quite a few decent games for us.
So did my mates. We used to argue about who would be better on the way to school. I seem to remember a game against West Brom which pretty much put the writing on the wall for him, I think he was playing left back and he passed it to one of their players who went on and scored. He litteraly passed it to him, there wasn't even a Spurs player around that he could've been passing it to, it was like he forgot who his teammates were. Fairplay to him though, he's had a decent career despite being crap.
He can't go in the team purely for the winning deflected goal he got against West Ham when we won 3-2 at WHL!
Same. I thought he was a very capable player, filled in well on the wing as well as the middle. Wasn't there a story about how he played on until half time with broken teeth after Jol misunderstood what the physio said so told him to play on?
It was at Fratton Park when he lost a couple of teeth and was the most ridiculous reason ever for elevating a crap player to almost hero status.
