Imagine the headlines around the world and the meltdown in our media if England fans had been involved. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/20541405/argentina-fans-fight-mexico-world-cup-lionel-messi-chants/
As much as you’d think that would be a good idea, ultimately UEFA would just become the same thing that FIFA is, just under a different name. We already saw the fallout from Blatter & Platini, so there’s corruption everywhere. There’s a new head of FIFA now, all he’s having to do is clean up the mess that was left to him. He seems to be trying to make the best of a bad hand he’s been dealt. It’s a tough place to be in when you’re left with all that **** & then you get extra stuff like the whole human rights, gay rights, equal rights & any other rights that get complained about. If the next step is to replace the heads of FIFA, there’s nothing to say it won’t happen again. As has been said before, this should have been sorted years ago, not weeks ago.
You may well be right, but as far as I see nothing much has changed, Infantino looks a weak person to have at the helm, and probably why the European nations want a change. Still, the voting system is swayed towards money for votes, until this is addressed nothing will change. I certainly believe that the bigger nations which are the powerhouse of football should have more voting power than some small nations, who for the most part seem open to underhand ways. On Platini, it seems to be the case that Blatter promised him that he would step down and would support Platini becoming FIFA president. Blatter went back on his word, and curried favour with the likes of Jack Warner etc to gain votes to keep him in power and it seems to be that this payment, even though it was finally not seen as a backhander in the court's eyes, was in fact just that. Platini may have seen that as rightful compensation for Blatter doing what Blatter does, stabbing people in the back, to save his own skin. If truth be known, Blatter realised he had to stay in power to be able to control the way things worked, letting someone else in at the time, who may well have uncovered his actions, and found them extremely questionable was probably a risk he didn't want to take. Something has to change, what that will end up being I guess remains to be seen.
It’s basically politics in football, get rid of one corrupt politician, another replaces them. Money talks, our own FA aren’t the best when it comes down to it. I think it’s just the way things are, unfortunately, nothing will ever change, even if they get rid of all the FIFA hierarchy, it’ll just be someone else, somewhere down the line.
And that's why they (all football authorities) should simply focus on football and keep out of the pandoras box of everything else. They are football authorities / teams / players, not politicians, social commentators, activists, etc. Be role models by being good role models, setting good examples on & off the pitch, maybe starting with eradicating corruption would be a good idea?
There are more members of FIFA than the UN so the chances of no corruption are less than zero. The problem is all the tiny nations having an equal say to the major football ones which means that splashing cash about and pandering to their views is inevitable.
No doubt the usual apologists will say their country, their rules and all got up by the British media. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...t-threaten-equipment-order-TV-crew-leave.html
The media always think they are right and untouchable. Print what you like and never apologise. Right up there with football agents as the worst slime.
So, they shouldn’t report these things? Maybe the Argentinian media should apologise for interviewing someone in a wheelchair? Funny how a lot of our fans defend the HDM and their hysterical over reactions and exaggerations regarding City.
I don’t defend HDM one bit. It’s just my general view of the media of which I was once the stich up of the HDM. Yep by all means report stuff just stick to at least 75 percent of the truth and we will be getting there.
Im sorry but this is absolutely impossible. If a player gets racially abused on the pitch, would you expect him to ignore it in case it’s ‘talking about race issues’ What about LGBT players at this World Cup? Are they and their teammates supposed to be quiet about homophobia in case they are seen to be ‘woke’? Players, authorities, coaches, managers, fans are all part of society which is ever changing around the world. They shouldn’t have to be silent on oppression, especially if it affects them directly. Does a ban on social issues cover Rememberance Day services? Where do we draw the line? All religious festivals mentions banned? The answer here is FIFA growing a spine and coming down on one side or another about a subject, rather than never opening it in the first place. It’s open, it affects fans, players, coaches, owners etc etc. Football can’t hide from society.
Whyb should we ban Remembrance Day Service in our own country? A ridiculous comparison. Should France ban Bastille Day?
