I hope PJ is on the wum otherwise he really doesn't know anything about football...

Why didn’t he just play to feet, a Hollywood ball is always going to look good.

A simple forward ball to feet seemed beyond him and the rest of MF.

klopp could....

by now southgate should have.

even if you look at the flawed system southgate had he was looking for high press system with the 4 up top pressing. If they had even kept doing that they would have won handily
under "pressure" people resort to their normal behaviours so don't agree particularly as Alli seems to want to be a withdrawn striker rather than a MF.

My take,

only saw last 15 mins of first half and the 2nd half.

1. I like Maguire, thought he looked solid and was good on the ball and brought it out well a few times as well as a threat on set piece. However, i agree with MITO in this highline, he cannot play the offside trap well so runs in behind he's already a few yards behind tracking the run thinking of the recovery. We got lucky when Khazri was flagged offside (wtf was pickford doing) when he was well on.

2. I'm mixed with Hendo. Made a few good passes but in general he's so ponderous on the ball and goes back and side. I guess it's not all bad as he kept possession but when a team sits back you want the ball to move quickly but he always needs a touch or 2 to get it under control and turn unless he plays is straight back to a CB. I do like his covering and how solid he is though and his defensive energy (which i think he doesn't get enough credit).

3. The team were either knackered from the first half exploits but it was a horrible 2nd half performance. Team was very abject and conservative when in the first half we were all over them pressing them and getting the ball back.

4. The team are good at set pieces and thats how our goals came about.

5. ref was bent. Also i wouldn't have given the pen for walker (his arms were a bit high) and thought it was a bit soft but i can see why it was given. How he then doesn't give those fouls on kane....

6. Not a big fan of loftus cheek (based on his chelsea performances a few years back) but he was surprisingly bright and made a great impact on the game.

7. we lacked a lot of imagination in the 2nd half and imo don't have a clever player(s) on the ball too unlock teams when teams shut up shop and and compact the game.

Can tell you didn’t watch the first 30 mins or so or you’d revise your comment on Maguire using the ball well. First 20 he couldn’t pick out another England player!

Just to be clear, we won.

Like I said, Italy and Germany have started slow in previous tournaments and won the thing. Do you think their fans complained about how if they keep playing like they did in the first game all will be doom and gloom? I doubt it.

We were not the only team to have an inglorious start but unlike some, we won. Let's just say it again: we won. Goodness, if Germany, Brazil and Argentina play like they did then they won't get out of the group stage. But what are the chances?

Tunisia were not absolute ****, they defended resolutely. And now they've lost a game they're going to bust a gut to do better against Belgium. But then maybe FIFA should just decide everything on the opening games if it's all going to go exactly as it already has.

And let's just say it again for the doom and gloomers: WE WON.

Italia '90, people. We started badly and made the semi. Cheer the **** up.

****ing hell <yikes> In all my years on here, this is the most positive post I've ever read from you <yikes>

I don't care about italy, especially since they are not in this one.

I don't care right now about germany who lost as they are not in the group. They were unimpressive.

I beg to differ on tunisia. they reminded me of our opponents in the CL, maribor. Tunisia were all over the place and SHOULD REALLY SHOULD have been 3 or 4 down after 20 mins. England stopped playing they didn't start playing IMO.

I am willing to bet you belgium rip them apart.

My view is this:

germany will need to improve radically on first showing to have a hope in this tournament as they were looking leggy, not just not bothered.

We looked badly balanced, bad tactically, stopped playing and left holes a decent team will exploit. I cannot see england doing more than getting another win v panama and then struggling. It will be columbia or poland in last 16... after seeing who happened last night i think walker and maguire will have big targets on them and will be the ones that get done.

You don't read me much, do you? I suppose you've never read my defence of many of our players in the face of strident criticism from those who believe we have a right to 10 Messis and a Buffon, with a bench worth billions.

We won. Don't care how we played. We won, we won, we won.

A win is a win is a win.

Winny winny won won.

2-1. Back of the ****ing net.

The media could've been full of whining about how we never win a first game, familiar pattern, same old same old, Kane can't replicate his club form and woe, woe and thrice woe.

But instead...

And I don't care about your whining, so we're quits.

Just to be clear.... it was Tunisia and they were absolute ****.

play like this v Belgium and we will be hammered but imo we will beat Panama by hook or by crook (should be very easy) and 6 points equals second place.

we should have had 5 or 6 last night to compete for 1st place but imo Belgium will take 1st on gd now

This is the game that could have dumped us out of the world cup. Lose last night and we probably wouldn't get out of the groups. All according to plan for now. Banana peel over. We can happily lose to Belgium knowing we are progressing.

Just watching the replays of the Kane penalty claims and I can see why the VAR refs couldn't give it, if it's going to be "clear and obvious," as the whining Phil Nevilles of the world keep saying. In the first instance Kane has his arm over the defender's shoulder and in the second one he's actually holding onto the defender's arm. It's not clear he hasn't tumbled deliberately and pulled the defender down in a 50/50. Doubtful but not clear and obvious.

Academic anyway, because did I mention already that we won?

First game over, first game nerves over, even a repeat performance should be enough to win the second game and go through and then play a side that will not sit back and defend with 11 so more space for your pacy players.

All that really will be needed is more players other Kane putting the ball in the net.

So should all be very happy!

Wtf was the drug cartel doing there lol
