France seem to be getting the job done without being that great .
Like in 2016 until the final .

I have noticed that it has now become customary for the TV cameras to switch to the VIP seats when a goal is scored. Last night we had President Macron shaking hands with the King of Belgium when France scored. As I would be surprised to see the PM going, I wondered who would take her place. I did see pictures of Mick Jagger at the game last night, so perhaps he could be asked to stand in for her.![]()
Shame how our beautiful game has become a political event - with dignitaries from these countries getting in on the act, presumably to increase their popularity at home. Who will we churn out for this ? How will politicians of all parties (apart from the SNP) try to profit from any English success at the WM ? Will the British establishment (who know more about egg chasing) suddenly become lifelong football fans ? It has been noticed that German governments use the distraction of World Cups to bring in unpopular legislation - because the media are also distracted. Fortunately that has been nipped in the bud this timeI have noticed that it has now become customary for the TV cameras to switch to the VIP seats when a goal is scored. Although I will enjoy the rest of the World Cup I will be glad when all the flag waving is over and football can get back to only being watched by real fans. At least I don't have to listen to 'Wir sind Weltmeister' for the next 4 years.Shame how our beautiful game has become a political event - with dignitaries from these countries getting in on the act, presumably to increase their popularity at home. Angela Merkel has actually appeared in the German dressing room after World Cup matches Frenchie, and was obviously not bothered about it being publicized, all very good PR. It is also a well known 'fact' that she was a personal friend of Sebastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm which did wonders for her ratings.Although my comment was very light hearted, there is some truth in what you say cologne. The Mayor of Paris has given the go ahead to install giant screens along the Champs-Elyseés for the final, expected to draw together 100,000 people. She knows that it will be popular and increase her standing with the population, but at the same time it will give the ordinary football fans the chance to get together to watch the game. With TV forking out so much money for club games, fans can just pay up and watch in their own homes, but given the chance to join with the crowd they will often still take it.
I need a second boost of your confidence pills kc. My heart says yes but my head is dizzy with spinning in both directions.28,800 seconds to kick off. Just thought I'd mention it
29226 seconds to Sterling's goal
I just love the England fan living on St Helena. So many people all over the world hoping
It's coming home, its coming home, it's coming , ....

. But also a cold professionalism. I haven't seen that since 66. No crazy antics for the press, no being seen in discos, no moaning, and no crazy predictions. Just more cold steel as we progress, and we all know how they don't like it up 'em,

Just looking forward a bit. There is much talk of "they'll never be a better opportunity" but
With teams like Holland, Spain, Germany, Italy .... rebuilding the next Euros maybe a great chance. England are 2 years into the rebuild. Not only squad rebuild, but management, support staff, and approach. Many others haven't started yet. Obviously Belgium and France (although the French command structure looks a bit suspect) look good but surely we can only get better from here. And with England's other squads doing so well is winning becoming a habit? And with England hosting so many matches in 2020 who knows.
So if the worst happens tonight, after a quick cry, maybe we should all reflect positively and look to a brighter future. It is coming home but the train maybe a little delayed
ps: OK it was just a weak moment. We will trash Croatia and remind the French that like at Waterloo the English are more than "Bon fot facile"![]()

Waterloo was in the United Kingdom of the Netherlands at the time of the battle. Change it to Agincourt.Im not 100% sure but i think there was no Belgium at the time of the battle of Waterloo
