He's too busy laughing at his Karius prediction coming true.I think that's my problem. He's really not the right bloke to do it. Gary Neville's the bloke you want for stuff like this.
I wish you nothing but good things, Brian. Danny Rose has my good wishes as well. As to his speaking out about racism in Russia: I think it's a moral issue and he's absolutely on the right side of it. It may not be wise to speak out from the point of view of the individual, but from the point of view of right and wrong, the problem is that not enough people and organizations are willing to stand up and be counted. This is really not a huge surprise...Danny Rose has been suffering from depression. He's been a bit all over the place in the last year and a half and gives the impression of being troubled by some aspects of an extremely high profile career where there's a lot of harsh criticism to deal with at times, added to some significant personal problems.

I've suffered from depression throughout my adult life and wouldn't wish it on anyone. I hope he's on the mend soon but informing his parents of his problems via the media and putting his head in the racist Russian lion's mouth gives a fair indication that he's still a little way off clear thinking, as yet.
Obviously, Gareth Southgate knew of his illness and believes that he's up to the job. I very much hope that the WC is cathartic for him and he continues to make progress in dealing with his illness. Good luck and health, Danny.

Anything that he said after the tournament would probably be seen as sour grapes, though.
He'll get some stick for this, but he'd probably get stick anyway.
He might not be the right man to say this stuff, but I think that somebody should and nobody else is stepping up.
He has chosen this week to resurrect a couple of significant events in his life and laid his emotional state bare for all to see. As you say, hopefully he will find this to be a cathartic experience to assist his recovery. The risk is that the timing will bring a malevolent focus on him both on and off the pitch, which will disrupt the campaign.
I've done this in my own personal life. Depression often leads to obsessing about things that have negative connotations for you and feeling that you need to address them to get well. The counselling that I've had strongly concentrates on working towards stopping negative thinking and shelving issues that can be shelved in the short and medium term because you're not thinking clearly and are poorly placed to deal with the fallout. When you're more stable, longer term therapy can be utilised to deal with those issues. I'm pretty sure that blurting them out to the media in advance of the most talked about event in the world wouldn't come recommended.
He did this with the wages issue last summer. He may have felt that he had the support of his team mates but nobody else stepped up and said a dickie bird and he faced the consequences alone. It really hasn't been good for him in any way. He's still talking about it now and has said about possibly being fined again, although I've heard that he wasn't fined at all because the club knew about his depression.
Now, he's tilting at the windmill of the racism in Russia. Yes, what he's said is 100% right but it is going to direct a huge focus on him that, right now, he would do best to avoid, if at all possible. It will be interesting to see how many of his England team mates speak out publicly to support him.....and whether the Liverpool ones get some t-shirts printed......sorry, but I couldn't resist it.
I'd recommend that he keep the counsel of his closest and dearest. Keep his head down and concentrate on playing his football and doing stuff that he enjoys. Cut out the huge stories in the media and some good professional help and the passing of time should set him back on the right road. Good luck to him.
Gareth Southgate has already come out in support of him, good on you Gareth. Come on the rest of the team, the FA and anyone else in a position of power.
I think most of us have been there. It is always better to bring it out into the open. Initially with your nearest and dearest but eventually with everyone. That's why both you and I Brian can mention it on here. If Danny Rose is using the press to help him broadcast his feelings and letting the whole world know then good for him, he is on the mend. Lets just pray for him and hope that he does his talking on the pitch as well. Another one of those amazing Ar5ena1 volleys, but against the Russians if we get a chance to play them, would be wonderful medicine.

Costa Rica have brought on Ian Smith at Elland Road
Ian Smith?
I wasn't expecting someone who sounds like he's local
It was the first time I've really seen Rose play since back from injury and, while he wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, he clearly has lost so much pace and looks short of spark/confidence at the moment.
Ian Rey Smith Quiros, apparently. Plays for Norrkoping as a right-back.Costa Rica have brought on Ian Smith at Elland Road
