Superb game that you never wanted to finish. Well done to both teams. <applause>

Well, that was something else again. Knackered from watching that. Belgium reminded me of a certain Championship side we all know and love... the frustration, the skill, the elation, the infuriation, the feeling that it will all be thrown away, the relief of winning despite our own best efforts to the contrary....

Very entertaining game - but I do wish the 'pundits' would tone down their praise for USA. Yes they were well drilled, worked together as a team, ran till they dropped etc etc - but that's nothing new. Strange that those self-same qualities used to be pilloried by press and pundits alike when displayed by GT's teams...

I think there has been a feeling of people trying to be condescending towards the smaller footballing nations like the US by patting them on the back for working hard and running their socks off.

But for Howard they might have lost 4/5-0...

It was a very open and attacking game compared to the Argentina v Switzerland match.

Suspect the Argentines will actually enjoy playing a Belgium side who will come at them and leave spaces open at the back.

I might bring wrong but wouldn't be surprised if we saw at least 3 goals in each quarter final.

Colombia robbed tonight.... a legitimate 1-0 lead then the ref lets the Brazilians kick the star oppo player off the park without any punishment, and then books him for..... ??? Distinctly unimpressed. Disappointing. Very disappointing.

The Brazilians have been like this for a long time.
They are a good side but dirty and get away with it.
All the South American teams bend the rules apart from Argentina who seem to be playing a fair game at this World Cup.

Brutal I Thought, but entertaining. Neymar was nearly crippled, deliberately I thought.

I saw the Brazilians as very cynical in their tackling... IMO they have been so in every game...

It certainly is - not a fan of this Brazilian side at all but he is great to watch. You could tell it was bad though as soon as he went down.

On a separate note I was bitterly disappointed with that French performance. It was as if they forgot they were losing in the last 20 minutes. Amazing to think it will only be the 2nd time Germany and Brazil play each other in a world cup!

Sad, but true. They have been cynical for a good couple of decades now but then I think their leagues are like that. Was not in the least surprised at what transpired, I rather naively thought the referee would be stronger. A classic display on how to influence a match without doing anything particularly controversial. I've seen and played enough to know better.

Saw a tweet that summed up the French! "France doing to Germany what they did in WWII, surrendering!"

Some cost for Brazil despite getting through.

    2 best players out.

The ref let both teams hack each other so it was no surprise somebody got badly hurt.
