This really is weird to me. 99% of the time I don't watch TV over the airwaves so I sort of forget about some of these limitations. On a computer or even mobile you could watch the Germany v Costa Rica game in HD, but on many TVs, ITV's app won't let you stream live stuff because they expect you to use the TV channel instead, but then they have it on a channel that doesn't have an HD option. Watching football in SD is horrendous, so I'm just watching the less interesting game tonight. If it was on BBC there'd be a choice of 4k streams on iPlayer. Odd situation. Makes me wonder when HD will actually become the default. We're long past the stage where SD is a reasonable quality to watch sport in.
Before HD every one managed to watch sport on the telly, can't remember people moaning about the picture quality. It's getting nearer and nearer to the kings new clothes situation.
