Willing to bet that this is because franchises have paid large sums to FIFA/stadia for sole rights to sell food and drink. Is it just me or is there no real excitement about this WC? Normally everywhere you look there are Crosses of St George etc, but nothing here.

I'm not that arsed this year. Combination of too many teams making the group stage largely pointless and most games being middle of the night. I think the heat will make for some very poor matches too.
I'll probably get into it more when the KO rounds start.
England don’t play their first game for another week and a half , I think things will start up a bit then

Also…y’know…being over there and stuff. Plus Infantino’s antics. It’s a cauldron of all the worst aspects of the football ‘business’, rather than the carnival of sport it should be.
Apart from the Trump thing the other issue with being in the US is 95% of the population doesn’t even know it is on. Contrast to if it were here or Europe and 95% of the population would be skipping work.
The politics side doesn't bother me as much tbh, can find fault with majority of tournaments.
It does annoy me that the US get a second tournament before we do though and the whole price gouging and nonsense weather laws make it a bit farcical.
Though I can see the US flopping which would be funny...
