Regardless, I think it's a bit silly to suggest corruption. The referee simply never had control of the game. It's a classic example of not clamping down on a team's behaviour early in the game and allowing it to impact the rest of the game.

I'd find that more believable if he was equally lenient with France but he booked 3 of their players for either similar or lesser fouls.
