Rooney didn't give Baines a lot of support or protection. If Danny Welbeck wasn't a Man United player he wouldn't even be in the squad, let alone the team.

In 1986 & 1990 I remember feeling gutted when we went out, because we had some genuinely world class players then & a realistic chance of success. Even Sven's team in 2002 was a lot better than this one. I am afraid the fact is that in a World Cup you will not get far with the likes of Fat Glen Johnson, little Cahill, Henderson and Welbeck in your starting 11.

The one positive is that Uruguay look piss poor.

It has got to be worth gambling with both Wilshire and Ross Barkley in the starting line up on Thursday.

Hey AllHell, Do you know anything about my account (OzAddick) and whats happeneing with it ?
I had the same problem 3 or 4 years ago, and had to make a new account, I think I just changed the B to a capital letter. Mrs FHB still gets several spam e-mails daily which are something to do with the old account.

You're right about Baines not getting any support, I'd say that was the reason Baines looked poor, rather than being poor, complete lack of support.

Rooney was useless, yes 1 cross that made a goal but that's it, a joke of a performance from a supposed "World Class Striker".
Yeah, I have a love affair with Rickie Lambert, but I'd drop Rooney and Welbeck for Barkley and Lambert, play a bog standard boring 4-4-2 rather than this recent fancy
4-2-3-1 that everyone seems to be playing. Problem was, the Italian defence looked fine and untroubled all game with the crosses, someone like Lambert, not the most technically gifted but will make a nuisance of himself, something that no one apart from Sterling did yesterday.

But Pirlo's Step Over was pure magic :O

Having just this moment woken up from a Phil Neville induced coma, the parts of the England game I can remember before being overtaken by a desire to bite my toe off, were ruined by the absolute banal crap delivered by the BBC

Firstly the BBC should remember that not all it's viewers speak teletubby or are from Eastern Europe.
That Phil Neville is an awful co commentator, Gareth Gates or Jo Pasquale would have been better.
By dressing up Mark Lawrenson as Rolf Harris is wholly inappropriate
By constantly referring to Brazil as 'happy vibrant place' it's not. It's a dump. It's like Erith placed upside down on Ben Nevis.
The hotels your staying in are noisey. I suggest if you can't sleep, bunk with Phil Neville or Mark Lawrenson ( if your over 18 of course )
Yes it does look like shaving cream. But it's not is it.

Tell us something we don't know and send that idiot Lawrenson and Neville to a brothel or something. The pair smile less than my mother in law and are more boring.

Gerrard was the biggest waste of space in that line up. Doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Pirlo, who took on a more advanced role and didn't look off the pace once. Showed for the ball every time, where as ''Captain Marvel'' Stevie G was happy to float around and watch the game pass him by.

Superb.

Where's Alan Hansen when you need him?

I was wondering the same ? I thought the World Cup was to be Hansen's swansong.

As for Phil Neville - excrutiating. I spent the first half 100% genuinely thinking I was listening to Michael Owen on mogadon. The same flat Northern vowels and boring comments that make the average Sat Nav sound interesting.

The BBC's World Cup pundits contain more drones than the sky line of Afghanistan <cheers>.

You just know that after his daily broadcast of inane mumbled comments, Rio Ferdinand is hitting the flesh pots of....err....Rio.....and scoring away from home far more often than he did for United last season.

Definitely the weakest Beeb team in living memory. No complaints about the commentators, but I don't bother listening to the "expert" studio analysis any more. They don't sound as though they've done their homework apart from on the England team (who we all know about anyway), and the Beeb seems to have forgotten that the fans also want to be entertained as well as informed. The likes of Phil Brown and Martin Allen would be the types they should be looking at.

Having witnessed a brilliant World Cup up to 8pm last night, thanks to God's Own Country Nigeria (the streets of Thamesmead were deserted during the game) and Iran, for p1ssing on everyone's fireworks.
