oops, befuddled brain as a result of recent massive spending !!

Had some book tokens for birthday, bought Chastise the other day, nearly quarter of the way through...you mentioned it...highly recommended.

About 9 or 11 years ago in January - we didn’t go in 2009 -, at Gatwick, I bought a book about the Dambusters. I read it on the beach in Barbados.

A couple of days later, I was chatting to one of the other guests and he said that he’d bought (at a Charity Dinner auction) the menu (autographed) of the celebration dinner (at the Savoy or Dorchester from memory).

I told him that there was a photo (in the book) of all the attendees of that dinner. I gave him the book to go alongside the menu card.

In subsequent years, he referred to me as ‘The Welsh Dambuster’ <laugh>

I think that Max Hastings is the pre-eminent military historian of our generation.
All Hell Let Loose (WWII)
Vietnam

Simply outstanding, individual stories, quirky facts and the big picture. Inimitable.
