This should probably be on this thread, rather than the other one (or both) . . . .

Since when did Rooney play women's football . . . . how can we, and why should we compare ?
Celebrate the stats for what they are, but don’t compare it to the men's stats 'cos that’s just ****ing stupid.

This is ****ing ridiculous just to tick a box <doh>

These televised games should come with a warning . . . . something like 'this is not proper football, mind, it's just for a laugh' :emoticon-0148-yes:

msm seem to have an issue with biological sex. They dont highlight of its male ot female football in listings etc. Clearly a reason for that.

I am happy that females have a growning sport and have opportunities to perform. Just make it clear to the public from the outset and stop mentioning male sport records in the same sentence

Never enjoyed it. Slow and the goalkeepers can not save any high shot. Until they reduce the pitch size and crossbar height it will always be poor quality.
Agree. Said this a lot but always wary of sounding sexist/misogynistic

It only looks like it's improving because their opposition is women <laugh>

but but but it's football...on the telly

right now it is pretty much like watching the first 'warm up act' at a festival, nee fecker knows them but you know it will improve as the other acts start ;)

I've watched a few games in these Euro's and as long as people accept its WOMEN'S football and stop trying to sell it as something it isn't then let those who follow it and enjoy it get on with it.
Tennis has had this equality issue between men and women and iirc the Wimbledon winners both picked up the same prize money but don't quote me.
Imo it's chalk and cheese but they're both called football matches and there the comparison ends.

Sky TV should put a womens sports channel together and charge a few quid a month for it or maybe throw it in for free for a bit to get people interested. Then see how it does as a stand-alone package. That would be a good way to show whether the women are getting a bad deal based on actual viewing figures and income from the subscribers.

That is a spot on suggestion...... it wouldn't last 2 minutes

My point of this was how can woman's football be even considered as an equal to even non league football. They are demanding equal pay, huge sponsorships and equal air time on TV. For me, its no where near a product that can justify any of those.
I once watched a game between Goole Town and Garforth Town. Good enough game, very entertaining, but I don't see any demands from either of them for equal pay, and time on the telly. etc..both of these side would hammer any national woman's team.
I don't actually have a problem with woman's football, or Cricket or rugby etc. My issue is, is this clamour for equal rights. If the product is right, it will sell itself and not done simply for political correctness
Womens football will earn the revenue they deserve, I am not advocating equal pay because their employers cant afford it. There is a different challenge in that men are over paid for the product they produce, particularly in the premier league. The gap is accentuated because of this and nobody wants to challenge the quality of that product.

The womens game is on an upward curve. The standards are getting better. Last nights game was a great watch, and as I have said Beth Meade (one of ours) was playing fantasy football. I do sit watching without thinking non-league is better, or u18s would hammer these, am more open minded so maybe I can enjoy it more. As for it being prime time tv - great, better than 90% of the rubbish my licence fee produces. It is an internatioal tournament lets not forget, not a second tier league game. My only gripe is Ian Wright continues to be paid as an expert analyser when he has nothing to add. I am watching a non league pre season friendly tonight, and I have no need to compare to a pro game, or a womens game, it will be a game of footy at a certain level, nothing more and nothing less.

Enjoyed the game last night

accept the standard is not going to be brazil world cup style then it is not too bad...i just wonder if this 'sudden' interest is down to some steady increase that has quietly been ongoing for a few years leading to more media time and just exploded, or the media time has been thrown in (probably due to non terrestrial stations being priced out of league and some cup football) and that is generatiing more interest?

I agree and think the likes of sky already know this so it will never happen. They would lose millions on the production costs with poor uptake from subscribers. Those moaning about lack of parity with mens sports are the same people who have no interest in either watching or paying to watch it anyway.

all about opinion.... Mine is, its overhyped and the standard is not great and is only on prime time TV channels because of political correctness. But enjoy the tournament.

Being on terrestrial TV is undoubtedly giving it a boost. When Cricket stopped being broadcast on TTV and moved to sky...its public profile dropped.

Fair post. Where do you stand on comparing the goal scoring records of Rooney etc?

Thats my issue they are putting them in the same bracket, comparing goal scoring records etc

We compare men and women in the number of Olympic medals, tennis grand slams...

As mens football has been at a top standard for decades, women's football has not the same long term in depth competition. That perhaps makes it easier for say Ellen White to score lots of goals against crap teams. Whereas, although there are some easy games, by and large Rooney, Kane etc score their goals against tough opposition.

Other than that imho it is legitimate to compare the top scorers in the men's women's games.

There is no comparison to be made in my opinion. Applaud them both for their achievements, but dont pit one against the other.

You and I love boxing. I am looking forward to Marshall v Shields. I would happily pay to watch. I wouldnt compare eithers achievements against male boxers though as I dont see the value. There are clear differences in how boxing is handled by men and women, but I enjoy watching the elite end of both as stand alone sports.

I've been an 'armchair fan' of the Ladies Game for a while.

Since at one time almost half of the England Team Squad had come up through our Accademy, it was an easy step from being pleased when one of our young lads made it.
But a lot more of the girls did.

Then SAFC ditched the Ladies Team on cost grounds and The FA demoted us two divisions.
By happy chance, :emoticon-0112-wondeMan Utd, a Club that had ignored the Ladies Game up till then, put a team together and were shoe-horned in.
The expression 'throwing out the baby with the bath water comes to mind'.
At that stage we lost our young star player, Beth Mead who in her first Season in the Firsrt Team had been the league's leading scorer.

So I enjoyed that game particularly her spectacular bit of dribbling in the penalty area.
Say what you will, not many of the men have done that as well as she did.
And YES, I know the argument about skill levels but is that relavent?
How many of us have watch our Grandchildren play.
I can only speak for myself, but I've enjoyed those games too.

But none of this has anything to do with the amout any participant should, or deserves to, get paid.
That is all down to the number of paying customers they can attract, either through the turnstiles or to watch on TV.
They are nowhere near the Men for either.
BUT, they are growing their Fanbase quite rapidly at the moment.

Viewing figures may be increasing but I predict that will decline just as rapidly. Anything that's over promoted will hit a peak and die imo.

Bring Kabaddi back to Channel 4

"In the 80's, as a child I could be sure of two things - that on a Sunday Channel 4 could provide me with Kabaddi in the morning, and American Rugby of an evening.

Now NFL is surely out of reach with the money involved, but there's a whole generation of youngsters missing out on the spectacle of half naked Indians, starved of oxygen, trying to tag each other."
