Honestly find it mad that people think Neil leaving wouldn't be a massive blow to us. He is having a very good season, slow start but he was learning a new system (probably the most important player in the system), while also adjusting to being captain.

Jobe is best as an 8, his physicality is perfect for that role and Neil is the perfect player to play alongside him at the minute. He has been our best player for a couple of months now, he is the heartbeat of the team from a player pov but also as our captain. Whether folk think he was the right captain, he is fantastic in the dressing room and is one of the most respected players in that dressing room.

He has also been involved in a promotion push before, that experience is vital

Now if we don't go up and he isnt signing a new deal then 100% we sell him and look to improve the squad.

Neil going is like Sheff Utd losing Souza, Leeds losing Tanaka or Burnley losing Brownhill/Cullen. We would be buzzing if they all lost them in this window, those teams would be buzzing if we lost Neil.

I don't see Dan Neil going anywhere until possibly the end of the season, he has 18 months left on his contract and 100% wants to get to the premier league first and foremost with his boyhood club. I heard this time last year he would give us another season to try and get promoted and I don't think that will have changed. He is an ambitious lad though so I wouldn't begrudge him for leaving if we don't get promoted this year.

The only way we sell him is if we get a daft offer in my opinion, and even then he has to agree. He won't just go to any old club, especially after what has happened to Clarke.

Well there you go, there’s 5 you think.. meaning how many are just as good if not maybe slightly below Dan’s level that could easily do a job there without really worsening us? Therefore he’s not really indispensable is he..
The 5 was a ball pack figure

I’d say:

vinicius Souza
Ao tanaka
Maybe ampadu?

that’s probably it actually. So he’s top 3/4 in the league.
They’re all older than Dan and played at a higher level already

so what does that say about Dan

I would normally completely agree if we didn't have Samed ready to step in immediately. I think it would be a blow but not as massive as it would have been if we didn't have Samed or ELF hadn't joined.

What would have been an utter disaster has been mitigated to an extent.

Disagree re Jobe, but that was last season before he's developed immensely as a box to box midfielder

Agree to disagree, i was referring to this season against portsmouth which was the only game he played as the deepest midfielder and was fantastic - I am not saying he is an instant guaranteed solution, but that in his only game there this season it went very successfully and could work in the future too.

Disagree tbh but all about opinions, neil is such a vital cog for us and we know what we are getting with him

We have no idea how samed or Le Fee will do with the physicality and pace of the championship in CM

I agree it's class we have that depth but clubs going for promotion don't often sell one of their best players in January

Arblaster is better than him. Hamer can also play the 6, so that’s 3 at Sheffield Utd alone. Tanaka and Ampadu at Leeds. I’d even argue Rothwell at Leeds is on par. Boro wouldn’t take him over Hackney and WBA wouldn’t take him over Mowatt. Cullen is also better. Jason Knight at Bristol City has also been quietly been one of the best in the league this season. That’s without even bothering to look into data I’m sure there’s others for clubs who aren’t as good as us that have been performing too.

No. It would need to be a significant bid, more than we'd accept in the summer, for me to accept it. I'm just saying if West Ham come out of nowhere with a £25m offer, and he wants to go, it wouldn't be the disaster it might have been.

You could go and ask fans of the current top 10 if they’d swap their 6 for Neil and most would say no. Whether or not I agree with them is a different story, I can certainly reel off players that are better than him there but the point is that he’s not a stand out player in his position.

I think he is criminally underrated outside of and even in our fanbase, and the interest shown in him year on year by teams better than us suggests the professionals think the same

Players playing well doesn’t mean they’re better than Dan neil.

He’s better than

mowatt
Arblaster
Rothwell

The only teams CM that Neil wouldn't walk into is Leeds

Hackney doesn't start for us, agree boro would always start him because he is their academy player and a player I like a lot but he doesn't start for us ahead of the Jobe and Neil combo

Hamer is not a 6

On what metric is he better? Your eye test? Rothwell absolutely bossed the game at our place. Cullen was the best midfielder in the champ by a country mile under Kompany and came back with a years PL experience. Neil is not better than him at all. Hamer has played more games as a 6 than anywhere else on the pitch in his career, most of his appearances for Coventry were as the 6.. just because he’s not playing there now doesn’t mean he can’t play there.
