Disagree re Jobe, but that was last season before he's developed immensely as a box to box midfielder

He played the 6 role nicely earlier this season if I remember when Neil was out.

Either way, Samed or Le Fee could do it.

I don't think him being sold this window is as far fetched as some do. And it's also not as disastrous as selling your captain is on paper.

He signed a deal in March 2023 and is on £7-9k a week, which was during our first season back in the Championship, he is looking for £25k and up now and we won't go there until we're in the Premiership.

no wonder he wants something better

top end championships players are on treble what hes on and hes arguably more than ready to give the prem a go

the model is one thing but losing a player like him in the summer is one thing, in the january unthinkable

Also paying Dan Neil what we deem to be out of our budget now, this "Premier League wage", before we get to the Premier League, would be foolish.

I'd much rather we sold him in January than over-extended ourselves. I trust the club to do what's right here.

So basically, get promoted and lose none of the stars(except for huge £30m + offers, just a guess) stay in this division and potentially lose 2-3. That’s what I’d expect anyway, no shocks there.

yes but is is dangerous because the high turn around of players could have a negative effect, we could see next season become another build with the push coming the season after.

id probably think thats the most likely outcome if a number of key players move in the same window

promotion this season is the best outcome, without promotion the journey continues but the pace is slowed imo

Might be. multiple journalists getting a "2 clubs interested in Dan Neil" line at the same time could well be his agent trying to get more interest.

I can't say its definitely happening and you can't say it definitely isn't.
I can say it with a fair bit of certainty. If it is happening then Dan is being very coy about it or doesn't know about it.

i would take anything over 15 million

Has been decent last 4 weeks but has been prone to poor spells, would not be the end of the world and of the big hitters (Ballard - Patto - Rigg - Jobe - Neil) him leaving would impact us the least imo
We still get £15m in the summer I'd expect. Don't see the rush to get it done now. Worth saying that the club has been really good at avoiding destabilising ourselves in the January window since KLD arrived. I'd anticipate that continuing.

To be fair it wasn't necessarily a criticism. If Dan Neil has 18 months on his contract and the club and he are miles apart on a new one, his agent wouldn't be doing his job if he WASN'T looking for options for him.

If Dan wants to play in the Premier League then as much as we are optimistic about our chances, both Everton and West Ham are more likely to be in the Premier League next season than we are.

I wouldn't begrudge him the move at all.

I'd personally rather it all waited until the summer and then he signs a new contract no matter what division we are in. But if we get a high offer now I can see us accepting it considering the options we now have.

Neil leaving us now would impact us big time. Early season he was having to adapt to how RLB wanted his number 6 to play. Can't see any of our other cm filling that slot apart from possibly Samed who's just coming back from injury. Hopefully we'll keep hold of our important players and add to the squad.

Neil isn’t a 6 and he was shoehorned in there, he’s learnt the role to a suitable level within 20 games what makes you think better players ie Jobe couldn’t learn it as quick if not quicker? He’s certainly got all of the attributes. I do agree it would be best not to disrupt the team at this stage of the season but I said a few weeks ago I think we could cope if he left.

I’m going to disagree and said Dan Neil had all the attributes to be a 6 and is now one of the best in the league with experience

I believe that selling players is part of our journey

but selling our captain, who plays every minute when we're challenging for promotion is reckless.

Unless the fee is immediately put back into the team in the same window and again this relates to our current league position.

This way you could argue we have improved and we potentially could.

Agreed that Neil is one of the best 6's in the league. But its not like we need to go out and find another one if we do sell him. We're in a really good space and will still be in a really good space if he goes. Not panic stations.

You could go and ask fans of the current top 10 if they’d swap their 6 for Neil and most would say no. Whether or not I agree with them is a different story, I can certainly reel off players that are better than him there but the point is that he’s not a stand out player in his position.

Somebody should tell Everton and West Ham this.

I’d be interested to hear who you view better as a 6. Id say no more than maybe 5

Well there you go, there’s 5 you think.. meaning how many are just as good if not maybe slightly below Dan’s level that could easily do a job there without really worsening us? Therefore he’s not really indispensable is he..
