I like Cannon. He's better in the air than people give him credit for, link up is decent but most of all his in the box movement is superb. It's a lot of money for us to put down but he's a long term target of the club, think we tried to loan him in the 2023 summer and bid for him in the 2024 summer. Plenty games under his belt already with a lot of room to grow.

I read it as, it’s 13 million structured with a down payment and add ONS, because later he says the add ons shocked everyone
Well whatever it means it still seems way over the top

But its good to see kld backing the manager, must say ive been really shocked so far this january so fair play!

also has the added benefit as I mentioned earlier that he’s ready to come in and play now. He could start on Friday no problem if we needed him to.

I get the trust the club chat, but there’s very little reason why any right-minded club should nearly double the offer of the nearest rival in the bidding.

At £13m it just makes me even more certain that there’s better available for the money elsewhere. We’d get a lot more from the continent for that sort of dough.

that’s if we trust the numbers Nixon is reporting. Very much doubt we’ve doubled it like this. If it’s true at all there will have been iterations.

Nixon will have zero clue on how much we've offered imo

I won't be surprised if this is Leicester trying to get Sheff Utd to increase their offer by saying we've bid that for him

Time will tell, I really rate the lad and I honestly think he can be a good solid PL striker in the future so would be buzzing if we signed him

Just a thought. If we were to sign Cannon or an out and out 9. Does that mean Isodor becomes the flexible 7,9 or 11 player RLB says we need?

Is some of the premium due to British-based players definitely being up to the job? You could get a theoretically better player from abroad for £7-ish million but there is also a decent chance that they will flop.

Sunderland have made a dramatic late bid to sign Tom Cannon from Leicester City - and are offering MORE than rivals Sheffield United.
The Black Cats are prepared to buy Cannon at the end of his loan period if they are promoted and pay a stunning £13 million in a down payment plus extras.
Blades hoped that £7 million guaranteed on going up would do the job but Sunderland’s numbers have changed the picture.
Cannon is waiting on Leicester accepting a fee and pulling him out of the Stoke City loan.
Sunderland have been trying loan to buy deals for several players. But the extras on top come as a shock to all sides.

If this is true (big IF) it feels a bit "Will Grigg" to me. He's... fine at Championship level but there's no way he's worth that sort of money, imo. Trust the club's judgement but if that report's true I'd be worried we're moving away from the model which has been working wonders for us so far.

Yeah I put very little stock in Nixon. Likely to be an attempt to drive up prices as Scout says. If it is true, though, I’m miles from being convinced that it’s a good move.
