Aye, I'm being a bit flippant but if we really want to make proper progression as a club built on solid, sustainable foundations then we have to be imaginative in our recruitment in my opinion, we can't be seeking to compete with parachute payment clubs for top end established Championship players (including Morris! ;) ).

It's what I've wanted since we dropped from the Prem and it's what we've done (in the main) since KLD came in - I love it and wouldn't want to diverge now.
Yeah agree totally. Leaving aside my obvious love for Carlton, it's generally a path that we've trodden before I think. If we're looking to push ourselves over the line we go for an experienced striker who we can use as rotation or off the bench. They aren't ones you spend loads of money on. Think Stern John or Brian Deane. Alternatively you go for players that have the upside to grow into real top level players. Personally I think BBD and Cannon are too expensive to fit into Pot A and aren't high enough quality to absolutely nail Pot B. Morris would probably be too expensive to fit into the first group as you say - although I think he'd be the most effective of all three of those names. That type does appeal to me, though, for a whole host of reasons. That profile of bench/rotation player who we could rely on to be effective, but doesn't necessarily make us duty bound to start them. No idea who that could be:emoticon-0102-bigsm

He has 11 goals for Stoke which is more than Wilson, he's 2 years younger than Wilson, he's played more english football than Wilson. I would value Wilson at 8m+ so I think 7m for Cannon is very fair. Also to have Cannon and Isidor competing would give us some serious depth upfront. it's clear RLB rates him too as he specifically mentioned how Cannon is a good player.
Yeah but in terms of rating a player for effectiveness I'd take Isidor's 8 goals over Cannon's 11 (including 4 pens and 4 in one game). It's good to have depth but committing money to a player who doesn't exceed the performance of one we have, and doesn't offer anything different doesn't scream 'effective' for the 20-odd games we've got left. Having a £7m striker sat on the bench every week is basically the same impact as having Rusyn sat there.

I'm not talking about finance (though that obviously plays a part), as @Frazier the Lion said, it's as much about ceiling and upside too - no other club in the Championship could have signed Le Fee, it's exactly the sort of imaginative recruitment I'm talking about.
`I get that, I just think Cannon being as young as he is and as experienced and good as he is, has. aspot in this squad and could really help us push for promotion. It's clear from RLB's comments too he wants experience in his depth and quality ones too

The difference there being you have someone who can rotate with Isidor to keep them both fit and available and if Isidor gets injured you have someone just as good to come in, otherwise you're stuck with a 'rusyn' leading the line for an auto's push

just to play devils advocate here -

just because we are being linked to them doesnt mean we are actually are them, its lazy journalism..

just because Nixon has said posted it, doesnt mean its 100% gospel
Very true, for all Nixon chats ****e he's been very accurate regarding Cannon the last few years, I think he has someone close to Cannon that he gets info from

we've been linked to him for seasons, its not going happen IMO.

Yeah, but given RLBs apparent dislike of both rotation and subs, it becomes a lot of money to commit to a player whose main route to a chance is an injury to our main striker. I'd be more keen if Cannon represented either a clearer PL upside (I don't really see that from him) or a more obvious stylistic difference to Isidor (ie being an absolute monster aerially/physically). I'm not gonna complain if we get him. It shows ambition and would no doubt be one that RLB wanted if it got done. I just don't see it as particularly effective squad building - either for this season or next.

RLB will have signed it off

his reluctance for some subs is down to trusting the players he’s got, if he’s got signings he wants, they’ll come on

Supposing we get Cannon does he get in ahead of Wilson.

Not from the off, but I imagine we will rotate and have them both battling for the spot which is what you need imo

Bang on. You can’t rely on having one good striker then a load of knackers on the bench because you don’t want another decent player sat around earning a wage. People get far too invested in putting players development ahead of the clubs ambition. For all we know Cannon is a much better striker than Isidor he’s just never really had a chance to prove it by playing regularly in a good team.

Gives Isidor that extra fire too knowing he has some proper competition

Correct, bench has been hideous for weeks. Rusyn coming on proves that <doh>
