Most clubs will have players not good enough to step up and replace the 1st teamers tho. Some will be signed to help out with the U21s and others will be younger players who aren't ready yet (Bainbridge and Johnson for example)

We certainly aren't going to sign a LB as good as Cirkin but we ensure the drop off isn't huge (which it wasn't when Alese stepped in)

If everyone was fit (Huggins and Alese) then we would be totally fine

I prefer us going for a LB as I feel we have enough cover at RB

Okay, but if the incoming player is not significantly better than Hjelde, I see it as stunting his growth.

Hjelde is a CB tho, he has said many times that's his position. So his development isn't going to be impacted by us signing a specialised LB

We have a great chance of promotion, which is great for the development of so many of our players so we should 100% be going for it

I don't want us to just sign players for the sake of it as I'm all for developing our young players but the only other specialised LB we have that might be able to step up is Bainbridge - and imo he needs a good loan to gain more experience 1st

Realistically Bainbridge is a year off and not guaranteed good enough. A player one step ahead at left back is what we need I think, done a loan, not getting games. It’s probable they’ll get them here with Cirkin’s record. OR an older pro who can cover us for 18 months.

If Whittaker is going to go to Burnley we could at least do with Plymouth holding out another few days pls so he doesn't play us.
Not sure he’d be straight into the side anyway, Anthony has been playing well on that right hand side for Burnley. You’re right though, preferably he wouldn’t be a part of the squad

Is there a reason Southampton seem to be letting all their best players leave. So strange given their league position
The players they are letting go have been really poor and some in Walker-peters case are out of contract

They have quite a big squad so probably need to trim it anyway

We could do with them charging them a fortune so they can’t spend elsewhere. He’d be a good addition for us in that he scores goals from wide. However, I wouldn’t want us to spend what he’ll cost because he isn’t all that in general play.

Well Hjelde's natural position is CB so he isn't going to offer what we want at fullback. O9 is better at centre half so the same applies, even Alese was a CB covering at left back. It would be nice to have a natural left back and right back cover
I'd back O'Nien to be able to produce every bit as much attacking output as Hume, mind. I don't think there's any drop-off there if I'm honest. It's more in other stuff. Plus, Hume is incredibly robust. Left back I'd agree the dropoff is more pronounced.

Said it the other day

I’d love us to stick a bid in for Whittaker with a couple of players going their way too

Quality player, can't see how we sign him tbh - would love to have enquired tho to see how many the full deal would be (wages etc as well)

It's out of our range tho, if I was Brentford I'd be looking at him - can cover both fullback areas plus can play as a wingback
