Yep think that was part of the reason the scouts were there tbh - 1 to do an opposition report and 1 to keep an eye on Youngs development I got a message from a scout for a German club on Saturday, asking me what I thought of Young - downplayed him big style but sounds like his club are monitoring him (they haven't seen him live tho)
Tell anyone that asks he’s ****e please I haven’t seen much of him at Salford in all honesty but was massively impressed with him in the America pre season a couple of years ago
I've seen some of his highlights since being at Salford and he looks so composed - very impressive for a 17/18 yr old. There will be loads of scouts watching him, it's normal the minute a young GK makes his debut in the football league that loads of teams take note. I remember when Pickford was coming through the academy and how excited I was to see how he would progress - I honestly think Young is better! Young has everything you'd want in a GK and I would be shocked if he doesn't play for England's senior side one day Don't worry that is not what I said to my mate, he got a 'he's OK, can't see him getting past Patterson as our no1 any time soon' message
Big risk imo letting your number 1 keeper go mid way through a season. More so a promotion chasing one. The keeper is a massive link in the team cog these days. Not just in terms of shot stopping or being dominant in the six yard box. It is as much about organising centre backs, distribution, players knowing how he likes to receive the back pass etc. Patto has his faults, but none significant enough to risk the disruption across the side a mid winter sale may cause. Let him go in the summer, and promote Young, but dont mess with a key position now would be my advice.
All depends on what kind of offer we get tbh Totally agree with your comments tho, I don't think he will go but if we got a silly offer than it could help is improve the squad overall
Yeah agreed. That goes for every player in the books too. Big offers should be considered whenever they land. I’m confident we can do what needs to be done in the aftermath. That doesn’t mean we go hunting for them though. The current squad is competing well and there’s value in continuity. Summer is the best time for big changes. Do want to see Young get the spot though. It reminds me a little of how I felt when we were entering a season with the well-liked Mannone in goal and Pickford sat on the bench. Except Patto is closer to what we need than Vito was at the time.
I see people talking about a more physical CF and a one who can gamble more in the air and be in the right places. Out of all the ones we got linked with Alexandre Mendy still suits it the most. Keeps scoring too. I wonder if the club will dare to revisit that one
I can see that. I dont see £10m or so as silly in a Jan window though. Nearer to £15m and I would be less disappointed, but realistically I doubt Spurs are desperate for him in their first team in Jan, so deal in the summer, at c£10m and I would be happier.
I’m excited for this window, we need a championship equivalent of the batth hume Roberts Clarke window, all improved the squad massively ahead of the run in, nothing drastic required but the right additions are massive
As an aside, transfermarkt, have updated player values today for the championship. Jobe now joint MVP at 18m euros. Sunderlands squad has seen the biggest increase in value overall since last update. I think transfermrkt generally isnt that reliable in values. But it isnt reliable across the board so it is a yardstick and hard to see why Jobe isnt most valuable and why we havent increased the most. Hume, Rigg both gone up in vakue a lot too. Cirkin a little, Neil a little.
We could have loaned Kane and Salah second half of last season and they would have looked rubbish. The entire club went into stasis.
I said similar during the Wilkinson and Cotterill days. We’ve gone through periods during my time supporting the lads that we could’ve got the best players in the world and coached them into pub team cloggers in the space of a month.
