Sheffield United are matching Sunderland’s £13 million bid for Leicester City striker Ton Cannon.
The Blades are willing to pay a guaranteed £10 million plus £3 million in extras for the prolific Championship marksman.
Chris Wilder’s money men were forced to act fast after Sunderland reached the asking price in a package that also includes extras.
Cannon was officially recalled from loan at Stoke by Leicester before the deadline on Tuesday night.
And now Leicester are set to accept both offers and allow the player to discuss the move with the two clubs.
The deal is now full time and not a loan to buy after a remarkable day of haggling.
Blades will offer Cannon a lucrative contract and their salary may be higher than what Sunderland will pay.
But after the tug of war between them there could be more developments and twists by the weekend.
