I was thinking this but I think Matete needs to stay if we don’t bring in a midfielder. Especially if 4-3-3 is persisted with. We only have 4 players who can play in that 3 if Matete goes.
I just can’t think of anyone else that could leave permanently to be fair haha, unless someone like Wrexham takes a risk on Dack?

I cannot understand the logic of letting Matete leave when we have 2 fit central midfielders
More of a guess than anything, he’s one of the only fringe players I’ve seen be linked with a move away, he’s got a knock at the minute anyway so would depend on how bad that is too

I agree with you completely but I just find it ironic that we think it would be disastrous to lose a player that hasn’t played a minute all season.

On the flip side I’ve counted and we have 5 central midfielders if we are playing a midfield 3. Neil, Ekwah, Jobe, Rigg, Aouchiche. The club might decide that’s enough and allow more minutes for Rigg.

(ideally I know we’d sign somebody who can play the anchor role)

Absolutely fair comment and if Matete leaving meant Rigg gets some game time in his natural position then I'm all for it.
What is more likely is that Ekwah and Neil will play every game and get flogged to death

Me daughter just told me we have Marcus Neil ( son of Lucas Neill) on trial from Liverpool.

Maybe he's the striker we are after lol
