You know I have given up trying to understand the mindset of football people. He is going so there isn't much we can do or say to change that. However, if you sit down and look at it coldly you really have to wonder why Stoke. They have absolutely nothing going for them either now or over the last 5 years. As you say notdistant with 5 managers in 5 years it is hardly security is it. I like the bloke I really do but just can't see this as career enhancing. To get the sack from here the wheels would not only have to completely fall off but they would have to roll down the road and demolish both the stadium and chairman's mansion. That's how secure I think he was. Not to get slated by the fans no matter what happened is almost unheard of. Maybe that's where I went wrong. I would rather have been happy and secure than bust a gut to get on and I would never have tried running before walking.
 
Well Warnock might be boring.....but a lot of managers would like to fail like he has....the most promotions in English football....EIGHT times he's gained promotion....and has been successful at keeping clubs up from a relegation situation often.

Someone who could steady the ship and help us stay in the Championship.....and pass the reigns over next summer to a new manager.

Disappointing that Schumacher has even got involved with talks with Stoke....(can only be the money)....personally that has undermined his position for his future at Home Park if he stays.
 
Don't agree on both counts. IF (notice big if there), Warnock were to be appointed I think any change in the approach to the way football is played would make a difference to the crowd size. Not immediately but I think if we reverted to boring then eventually. That's revenue loss and would hurt. Second is I think Schuey would be forgiven anything if he stayed. People can see why he might talk to others. The money side of it is a big draw when you have to secure your families future and people recognise that. However, if he talked and then chose us rather than them he would be applauded rather than villified. That's the difference between Argyle and the others on how much appreciation there is. He will not get that anywhere else.
 
Thinking about it overnight, potentially what this does is screw up the upcoming transfer window. We definitely need another striker and ideally we might want to convert a couple of loans to permanent transfers: if we can: I’m thinking of Finn Azaz and Luke Cundle particularly.

That’s hardly going to be made easier by perhaps not knowing who the manager will be.
 
If Steven Schumacher stays I feel he has made his job more difficult.....notDistant has mentioned the January window....how do you entice quality players to your club having already contemplated leaving yourself.....if the manager who is asking you to come to Argyle might up and leave himself....then why should I come to Plymouth.

Also players at Argyle might think twice about their own future if the manager that they have put their trust in...might up and leave if the opportunity arises at any time.

Schumacher has definately undermined his value to the club by even talking to Stoke who have nothing to offer him that isn't already happening at Argyle but more money.....leaves a bad taste in the mouth...and things will never be the same again.

Blimey pasoti having a sweepstake now on what time Schumacher will be announced as Stoke manager.

There literally making it impossible for him to stay here whatever happens.
 
I know of Nigel Pearson but not much about him. Argyle are in a minority of clubs I think. We’re run like a financial institution or major PLC. This has considerable implications for the manager.
  1. Has to understand and live within the budget, which is smaller than most.
  2. A planning application has just gone in for a £21m project for a new academy and another £5m is earmarked for new first team training facilities. This is a long term project not a quick splurge in an attempt to get to the Premier League.
  3. Recruitment is a team game driven by analytics. This may be seen as constraining by some managers.
  4. There is an emphasis on young players with potential. That’s potential on the pitch and to sell on when they blossom. We wont be buying any faded EPL dropouts.
  5. It is a condition of employment that we must play entertaining and attractive football to attract the crowds. No big lads who like to kick it a long way.
  6. Our squad spends more time together in a coach together than they do with their families. Everyone needs to get on, so character is important. Players or managers with over inflated egos need not apply.
  7. Nobody with tendencies towards inappropriate gambling, drinking or womanising will make the shortlist.
I’m not being disrespectful to Nigel Pearson: I don’t know him. But I wouldn’t be surprised if and when we make and appointment the immediate response will be “WHO?”, partly because some bigger names won’t want to come and some bigger names we won’t want.
 
I would'nt have a clue and definaely do not have a preference for who fills the post. What do I know anyway. The only time you know if you signed the right person or not is after the event. I can only think of a few who I would not want under any circumstances. Steve Evans, Joey Barton to name but 2.

I don't think it makes one jot of difference to players who the manager is or how long he stays. They are far more money driven than even managers are and as long as they get paid well then that is about it for them. I have to say that I think Schuey is making a mistake career wise with this because I don't think he will be at Stoke long enough to make it worthwhile. He could have done a whole lot better that's for sure. I remain of the opinion that he would be forgiven by the Green Army.
 
Actually I do know something about Nigel Pearson. He was at Leicester before their promotion to the Premier League and subsequent winning it. Several in the game have said or written that he laid the foundations for their later success and that it was unfair that he was sacked and others took the glory.

Having looked him up, he has though had a few controversial episodes and I don't know how that would fit in with Argyle's ideas on corporate responsibility.

Interesting list of exclusions Sensible, more for who've you've left out than included. I know who you have in mind.

Mine was hardly a list notdistant given I only named 2. If I put my mind to it though I could probably come u with a dozen. I expected it to have been announced by now.

STEVEN SCHUMACHER HAS JOINED STOKE.

How can that be a good choice....other than for the money.

Will we now lose most of our backroom staff....or will they stay .....assuming the new manager doesn't bring in his own men.

It seems that Mark Hughes Assistant Manager, ...Peter Cavanagh First team Coach... and Darren Behcet Goalkeeper Coach have also jumped ship.
 
He’s gone then, along with practically all of the coaching staff. I’d wish them good luck but it would be a lie.

Now he’s gone, I feel free to say how poor I think our tactics have been this season. We abandoned what worked and came up with something that wasted a significant part of Morgan Whittaker’s talent by penning him in against the right touchline and too far away from his soulmate Azaz.

If we needed to be more secure away from home and in difficult phases at home, then just get the wing backs to drop deep to make a back 5.

You learn something every week. At the weekend, I heard Pep Guardiola’s mantra as being “pass sideways and run forward”. Within days I saw a purported quote from Schumacher “pass forward and run forward “. Maybe that was a smart alec but it has truth in it.

We all like to think we know football and of course we don’t. But any fool can see we haven’t made the most of what we’ve got this season.
 
Nobody in the Universe is bigger than the club so basically if somebody doesn't want to be here then feck off and be somewhere else. I won't lie either. I liked Schuey and I liked mostly the football we played. We have young players who make mistakes of course and a young manager who also will make them. But, overalll it has been a good journey. I though also don't wish him well either. It feels slightly like Holloway. He jumped for the money no matter what he said ands so has Schuey. Reputed to be around £1m per year so it isn't chicken feed. A few days ago he stated he was in the right place and now he suddenly isn't. I do not believe he didn't know because I'm not that gullable. Therefore I hope Stoke go the same way that Leicester went the last time this happened in this way. I wonder if it's worth a punt on how much of his 3 and half year contract he will actually get to see out. My bet would be no more than a third if he sees it out to the end of this season that is.
 
Schuey who???? Right lets get back to proper Argyle news then. Good news is Hardie is not badly hurt and whilst he was concussed and will have to follow protocol he is unlikely to be out for more than one match it seems. Got a black eye appparently. I watched the Argyle video on match moments. Took special note of the challenge and they have it from an angle I had not seen before. It absolutely looks like an elbow and the head was nowhere near. The FA should be looking at that for consistency if nothing else.
 
The intense speculation in some places followed by doom and despondency is surprising. Gone are the days that the Manager/head coach departure disrupts things too much. We've spent the last 5 years building a structure /ways of working that means we can carry on without too much upset when the number 1 goes and takes some staff with them. Have wished him well and look forward to us appointing the right person to help us stay on the journey.
