Wimbledon (A) FA Cup

Okay after all the excitement and debate about whether Airman Brown is nice or not, we get some more football today. I'm among the minority of Charlton fans who enjoy the cup though the apathy of fans in general has weakened interest, and I even caught the Truro game because work commitments had me nearby.
Wimbledon and their fans are rapidly losing their attraction as 'poor, badly treated nice guys'. The team are getting back to the cynical ways of the Crazy gamg, while the fans take abuse of their enemies (and KR seems an odd choice as I doubt he had much to do with rhe forming of MK Dons) way beyond any sort of logic.
I'm hoping for a win today, nut I have a feeling this will be another ground-out draw. We don't need another fixture in our overloaded rin just lately. But frankly, I'd be less than thrilled to lose to their abusive fans.

AFC Wimbledon fans have a berserk hatred of anybody who has ever had anything to do with MK Dons - I can understand that, even if it does seem too extreme to many. It will never fade either, as long as the Milton Keynes franchise retains the name 'Dons' and still claims the old history of Wimbledon, including the FA Cup victory of course.
Naturally MK are never going to bow to their wishes, so the lines are drawn for an everlasting rivalry which has no undercurrent of mutual respect to temper it. But it is not unique in that respect; West Ham and Millwall behave pretty much the same way.

Short of them breaking the law, I don't have a problem with AFC fans giving Karl Robinson as much abuse as they can muster today.
Football is becoming so santized and consumer friendly there is precious little passion left in it anymore, so I never mind seeing a stadium full of genuine fans getting all fired up and channeling some aggression.
KR and our players can hopefully use the hostility to spur them on to giving the home fans something to really get upset about - by banging in some goals and knocking the Wombles out of the Cup.

That team is pretty much the strongest available at the moment.
Looks like Karl Robinson wants to avoid defeat today at all costs.

Poor result

Today was an appetiser for what happens after January, when “Le Arsehole” refuses to invest in the team.

The team currently resembles Albert Steptoe’s string vest.

 

Very disappointing.
That was about the best team we could field today, and as far as I can tell we just did not do enough against a team who wanted it more.

But what's done is done.
Those players have to pick themselves up again and make sure they give everything against Portsmouth at the Valley in 6 days time.
Pompey will surely be up for that 25th anniversary match, and I hear they are bringing a proper army of fans.
A poor performance against them will not be acceptable.

 

Not an important result in itself, but our form is slipping, and if we don't start to perform soon we'll be fighting to get into the play-offs. TBH it all takes second place to the sale of the club.

 

And as for the Checkatrade Trophy game in 48 hours, we should put out an entire academy XI and tell the EFL where it can stick its fines.
None of our first team should even travel to Wales.

In fact the Swansea U14's match is not even listed on the CAFC website calendar, so maybe we aren't even going to bother to turn up (literally).

 

Seb Lewis should be given a game.

Of course it is, but I know some young fans who are gutted by this.
Pitting our wits against a higher ranked Club, or getting a glamour tie in the next round are things a lot of young fans haven't experienced.

Is it any wonder the crowds have disappeared..?
The ultimate ambition for this season was to reach the play-offs.

If we're to have any chance of getting promoted via the play-offs we need players like Pearce Solly and Bauer who will be up for the fight.

 

Wimbledon get Spurs away in the 3rd round and a trip to Wembley.

FFs.

 

The Club would have made bundles from Spurs at Wembley...we would have taken 7,000 plus like we did to Fulham.

Just another self inflicted own goal , all because the owner doesn’t know what a squad is.

 

probably on my own with this one - but I’m glad we’re not going to Wembley to play a 3rd round cup game. Wembley should be reserved for finals and internationals imo.

 

The Regime would have gone totally overboard on it - the whole thing would have been a cringeworthy stunt (just like everything else they do) except on an epic scale.
Any other Prem team, fair enough. We could dine out a bit on it.

But Wembley?
Imagine the photo-ops for KM, the tsunami of absolute drivel that would have come gushing forth from the website, the multiple orgasms in the Apologists bunker. The merchandising, the plastic fans coming out of every nook and cranny, yet the eventual humiliation of our section of the Stadium being half empty at least.
The frothing and fuming over whether CARD would organise a mass paper aeroplane throwing demo, or give away 2,000 'ROLAND OUT' bobble hats.

Now I know it was Wembley awaiting us, the more I think about it the happier I am that we got dumped out yesterday.
