Simple question, who do you think should be partnering the hunk of sex at the back that is Fabricio Coloccini?

In my opinion I would pick Williamson every time, the back line looks far stronger with Williamson opposed to Taylor, I think Taylor backs off defenders far too much and his general positioning play has been atrocious when we've seen him this season, as was pointed out earlier by another member the recent great performances of Colo have coincided with the return of Williamson to the back line, they are the best CB partnership at the club IMO. Long may the parternship continue!

If Simpson could just cut out his silly mistakes I think we would have a very very, good defence.

Willo without a doubt.

Rock solid & his partnership with Colo is impressive to say the least.

Saylor can fill in for Simpson if needed though & is a very good bench-warmer to have!

They are both pretty solid no-nonsense style CBs. Taylor is more error and injury prone but he is a more intelligent player than Williamson. Going forward Taylor is more of a threat from corners. He also has the age and a slight pace advantage over Willo. Obviously Colo is the only LCB in the squad (Kadar is injured and on loan) so this spot is his. Not to mention that Colo has been one of our star players for the past two years. As for his partner I would play whoever Colo is most comfortable with as there isn't a lot between Taylor and Willo.

Williamson. He may be lacking pace but the defence just seems so much stronger with a tall guy at the back... Taylor can be a bit of a liability at times, as much as I love him.

Taylor although I do think that our defence seems to pick up more plaudits with Williamson at the back.

I would have picked Williamson but lately he seems to be a bit shakey. In the last few games his touches have been very slack and he isn't very composed. Taylor is better with the ball.
Really? I think hes looked a lot better since coming back into the team, I think the only times hes looked a bit shaky is when hes been put under unnecessary pressure from Simpson on the right tbh.

Taylor every time. He's the only defender who hasn't had a shocker so far (Colo Vs Bolton, Willo Vs Wigan, Simpson Vs WBA, Enrique Vs Bolton, Campbell Vs Liverpool). He's a lot better on the ball than Willo, he has good judgment, he puts his foot through it when he's under pressure and plays it out when he has time. Whereas Willo and Colo tend to play each other into trouble or rake it forward when they have time to pick out Barton or Tiote. Taylor's also a leader, he organises the rest of the defence, he's the only one who communicates.

Also Willo has this horrible knack (don't know whether it's a technical deficiency or just bad luck) of deflecting the ball into his own net.

So hes allowed to play bad aslong as he doesnt have ONE awful game?, Taylor has been sub par in each performance hes had this season, whereas Williamson and Colo have been consistently good. Not always amazing but good.

Williamsons game v Spurs was described as one of his best for us, anyone agree? I know he wasnt going to be outjumped by VDV or Defoe but they could have him for pace and were handled very well. I'd also say Simpson is getting unnecessary stick for the last game, he was solid throughout (as he has been all season since his comeback) and a small mistake let him down. Lay off him to those giving him stick.

Personally I think Simpson deserves the stick that he gets most of the time, frustratingly he cannot stay with his man and forces Williamson out of position to cover his back, he also backs off his attacker until its too late far too often, however he has improved since the championship and I feel he could be a great defender if he could tighten up his game a bit, hes good at getting forward aswell.
