I respect your opinion, it was too much money to pay and especially on an injured player. Wigan (was it?) had us over a barrel though and although it turned out we were no better with him I think given his league one record it was a reasonable signing in theory. I'm not sure what's wrong with the lad personally I think he's having mental issues of some type or another, his confidence is rock bottom.
Now grigg and Wyke will become world beaters at our club now parky is in charge and get 30 goals between them this season or 3 maybe. !
Each to their own but there was an excellent in depth stat analysis in RR on ross at safc and frankly it endorses what I am saying. The shots on goal, goals scored, successful pass % all pointed to the fact we were playing direct/hit and hope/hoof all. Maja was an excellent 'sniffer' and latched onto these hoofs and could make space in an instant and score. When he went that was it. Worse when opposition teams set up to defend it ross never had a plan b. He was bereft of football acumen in all honesty. Fair enough if you believe he was hard done by. He was imo all talk and no walk.
If rumours are to be believed hill/coton and Donald wanted grigg more desperately than ross. He had major reservations about the price and the fact he was injured and unfit. He was bought anyway. A massive financial mistake. Even fit we'd be lucky to get 50% of our money back.
I'm still more than willing to use him. He's our best out and out striker. He's looked poor so far in the main, but he needs to be managed in a formation to help him. We have wingers and players who can play the number 10 role, and we have Wyke as a target man (I know he isn't great in the air, but his finishing won't get us up alone) Put it this way, i would say nearly every team in this league would take Grigg if they were given him and be over the moon.
I agree. And he’s done it several times before in this league. Like I say we are starting from scratch and hopefully he gets a shot of confidence from somewhere. He’s not the busiest, he doesn’t even celebrate goals (and never has contrary to folk saying it showed he didn’t wanna be here), but if he can score 8-10 from now all will be forgiven and forgotten.
He needs to get fans onside by working harder. As for celebrating goals, i think he has either scored when he had already missed a few, or scored in a cup competition that he would look daft celebrating like mad.
He rarely celebrates, hasn’t through his last few years of his career. I agree on the work rate though.
Wigan certainly had Donald's pants down, last minute panic buy.... Heyho I'm hoping he's gonna come good....
You can tell he's a talented footballer but we need him fit, motivated and in a system that suits his style. Let's be honest if he scored 10 goals this season most of us would be over the monn with that return. I live in hope!
Not in the last year of his contract for a league one club. I know we spunked a load of money on Grigg but that doesn't mean we've got an infinite fund and we might potentially pick him up for far less in January.
