Knew someone would make the Bradford link. For younger readers, so look away Beddy but everyone else stay with me, I'd just add....

When the draw was made in 76 it was WBA or Saints v Norwich or Bradford. Norwich were top 6 and going well and their fans could smell Wembley. After St Mick had seen off the baggies in the replay all eyes switched to the much postponed game at Norwich, where Bradford, a poor 4th Division club, were expected to get thrashed. A defensive siege and two breakaways saw Bradford win 2-1. The rest etc. The parallels with last night are obvious, even down to our 5th round opponents. Oh,in '68 the baggies beat Saints in a replay and went on to win the cup. It's all in the runes, I tell you. Alternatively it's all a load of bollocks. Your choice!

As long as it doesn't become 1974 when we lost to 3rd Div Wrexham and the result so buggered our season we ended up relegated I'll be OK.

I remember that Wrexham game at the Dell in a mud bath. Arfon Griffith did a job on Channon that day including having him in a neck hold and getting away with it.

Whatever the result I hope our fans do the club proud. Watching the City fans (and one or two players) last night was nothing short of embarrassing. Yes I know they were provoked by some Wigan fans who got carried away but they should have been able to rise above that.

It wasn’t the greatest game of football but an interesting experience. Bradford didn’t have enough stewards so some hired guns were brought in from Leeds. Some were actually teenagers in white coats and Doc Martens who just wanted a scrap. Never seen anything like it.

Their centre halves were immense...Always thought Dan Burn looked decent. Surprised he's not playing at a higher level

I recall that he initially looked very impressive in the PL for Fulham. But as time went on, I believe he got worse and worse for them in the Championship.

I was hoping for City, then it wouldn’t be embarrassing if we lose.

It won’t be embarrassing though; they’ve just beaten City. Even the Wigan manager said he thought they’d lose, so I guess 99-100% of people thought City would win. I guess for our game it could be as close as a 50:50 split.

No embarrassment.

Just seen that Pompey are away at Oldham that Saturday, don't suppose that would effect the decision would it? I have no clue but would trains involve a change at Manchester?

There's also a running event in Wigan on the Sunday which apparently encompasses the stadium so not sure it will be then!

Edit: Reading around I reckon the early Saturday ko is nailed on unless FIFA allow the Monday night.

I’ve just been at Fratton station (yes my local station!) and talking to a guard I know there, the police are taking a very keen interest as more Pompey fans are travelling now due to our game.
Question: do the police trump sky and fa regards fixture dates and times?

You've gone too in-depth with your analysis <laugh>

There is talk that there is a move to get the game played behind closed doors because of the behaviour at the final whistle. I say no, that is not severe enough, they should be disqualified and we should be given a bye in to the next round. That would teach them to behave.....

Any chance of a rumour being started, saying that we want to buy Grigg in the summer, to, kind of, unsettle him?
There is no straw that I won’t grasp at.
Not a bad shout
Big, strong, holds the ball up,has good control, can shoot with either foot, good header of the ball and has pace,
Would probably make the step ok

Anyone remember the 1983 cup final between Brighton and Man United. Had to return a few days later for the replay. Imagine that....restaging a Cup Final!
As did the 1981 final between Tottenham and Man City. 4 days between the final and the replay, which 92,000 managed to get tickets for without the benefit of the internet!

Great Cup final. Didn’t Brighton miss a sitter right at the end of the first game, think it was Stevens. Although I think they had loads of players with that name then.

Think they got dicked 5-0 in the replay.
