I for one are not happy with this, it's players in not out that's needed and certainly in before out. I honestly believe this lad could become a very good premiership player.

I think he has the potential to be but is too busy looking in the mirror to release it. Hes built like a brick shyte house but weak as pish.
His 40k a week wages can go towards a top quality striker now.

cant get rid of 3 forwards mate, need at least 5 on the books if we are playing 3 up front
I think we will go 4-4-1-1 though as we finished last night's game. Johnson (depending on his court case), Giacherinni, Lens and hopefully another top creative midfielder signing with Defoe playing behind a target man (maybe this lad Toivinen who we are linked with). There is also Mandron and Watmore, who I hope are given a chance next season, as support. Graham, Fletcher and Wickham managed less than a dozen between them all last season so none would be missed anyway.

Im a bit gutted about this tbh. I've always rated him even before he joined us And still believe he will come good.
Let's pray we have a suitable replacement lined up.

There is a famous saying that top level sport is played in the top two inches. Whickham has the potential and physical attributes to be a top level player, I think what is lacking is the mental strength and drive to compete at the top level

The Silver Fox strikes again. If Palace aren't battling relegation this season with that oaf in charge then I'll be amazed!

Watch him bang in 15 for palace in a more attack minded team. I have always rated him but my patience with him has long gone. Great news if we get 8m for him. I agree with Cest we dont need 4 or 5 centre forwards. Get rid of Fletcher and or Graham too and bring in Austin. 4-4-1-1 system with Defoe in the hole...

Connor Wickham will discuss personal terms with Crystal Palace tomorrow after Sunderland accepted a fee for the striker.

Wickham, who only penned a new four year contract with Sunderland last December, is due to meet with Palace and ex-Newcastle boss Alan Pardew after the Black Cats sanctioned the 22-year-old’s exit.

Sunderland sources are keeping tight-lipped on the size of the fee - rumoured to be around £10million - but it is understood to be big money for a player the club invested £8m in during the summer of 2011.

Wickham’s departure would free up a sizeable chunk of wages for Sunderland to re-invest, while also boosting Dick Advocaat’s transfer kitty, with the Dutchman still keen to bring in another couple of players before the end of the transfer window.

Advocaat has been looking to boost his options up front, yet with four frontmen already on the books, Sunderland have faced the problem of needing to offload one of the quartet to make room in the squad.

Wickham had been considered the least likely to depart after being handed a lucrative new contract last December after the club had rejected two offers from West Ham - the highest of which was around £6m.

But while Sunderland had hoped the 22-year-old would kick-on after his contribution to the Great Escape two season ago, there were signs of frustration from Advocaat about the England Under-21 international’s application.

Wickham, who has missed Sunderland’s last two pre-season outings with a knock sustained in Canada last week, found himself in a deeper role at the end of last season and was dragged off at half-time in the 0-0 draw at Arsenal which guaranteed the club’s survival.

Even if Wickham’s move goes through, one of Steven Fletcher or Danny Graham - both in the final 12 months of their contracts - could still depart this summer.

But Sunderland will now have a hefty sum to reinvest in their forward line, to boost an attack which was the joint worst in the Premier League last season.

10MILLION! <party>

Word is on twitter it's only 6 upfront. But still big wage off the bill and an extra 6m on top of money we've already got to spend. A chance to bring in some real quality. Word is Buckley could be on his way out shortly too.

Sell Fletcher, and sign 2 more quality forwards. Defoe needs to be the main man but this means we can buy some decent supply for him and someone quality back up. Plus that midfielder were desperate for.

Things are looking good.

Just heard about C.W. from talk ****e, bit numb actually as thought he was one to keep with Defoe.
Hey ho just goes to show what we know!

We paid just over 8m for Connor but you could say wed have gone down the season before last if it wasn't for his goals , so even if it's a small fee we got something out of him.
