Up my own arse
I’m fairly patient (some may say too much so) but what the ****’s the script with Celtic fans just now? The Radio Snyde phone-in for the last few weeks has seen a raft of Tims calling in to criticise Deila. Even today’s Record has some of these bams criticising everything he does from team selection to his demeanour on the touchline during games or perish the thought, predicting we will win the SPFL title. One brain donor today even suggested Scepovic is the worst player ever to wear the Hoops.

God give me ****ing strength.

The current consensus (amongst Bams) seems to be that his bedding in period is over, he’s had more than enough time and money and should basically be rolling over every team he’s faced. Will these people ever learn? Give the guy a break ffs, he’s been in the post for 4 months and whilst he’s hardly set the heather alight, apart from the shambles against Legia and Maribor he’s been no worse than Strachan or Lennon so far.

When did our fans turn into a bunch of ****ing pansies who believe the ****e they are fed in the Media?

Rant over.

Celtic Diary Monday September 29: Even Keith Jackson Can See It.

September 29, 2014 · by Ralph Malph · in Diary, Latest
The Diary has been accused of being somewhat fickle at times, largely because it is, but even the author is beginning to question his sanity this morning, when he found he agreed with an article written by Keith Jackson of the Daily Record, presumably after his head was cleared of previous thoughts by the method illustrated above. Theres a first time for everything, I suppose. And no, the bold Keith didn’t write about bears utilising large areas of forestry in order to evacuate their bowels. In fact, it was something even more obvious.
“Celtic boss Ronny Deila makes managing a team look hard just like Ryder cup flop Tom Watson”

Alright, perhaps the headline could have been phrased better, I’ve no idea or desire to find out exactly how hard Tom Watson is, and even less desire to watch golf. After all, if someone hits a wee ball as hard as he can and then trudges off after it, there is obviously a loose wire somewhere in his circuitry. In cricket, they make someone else fetch it, which seems a much better idea.
In the article , Jackson says;

Ronny Deila didn’t arrive here with much of a reputation to lose. For the most part the Norwegian was unheralded and, yes, even unheard of. His work at Stromsgodset may have made big news in Gulskogen but it hadn’t travelled as far as Glasgow which is why Deila was up against it from the outset. He has an army of doubters to win over and quite frankly, the more the fans see of Deila’s work the less there is to convince them. Yes, a victory was cobbled together at St Mirren but this was another strikingly sub-par performance from Deila’s side.

In fact, his team is becoming unrecognisable from the all-conquering unit left to him by Neil Lennon and, for that, Deila has some explaining to do. The more he tinkers the less impressive the team becomes and, more alarmingly, there are now mutterings of discontent from behind the scenes at Lennoxtown where Deila’s ultra-modern methods appear to be causing some confusion.
The 38-year-old is full of ideas but precious few of them appear to be working for his players who remain unconvinced as to how a portion of rice with their Saturday night Chinese takeaway is going to make them perform more poorly on Thursday night when Celtic take on Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League.

All carbs and sugars have been banned by Deila who is in danger of coming across as a bit of a textbook fanatic, exactly the way Paul Le Guen did at Ibrox not so very long ago. Of course, its nothing that many of us haven’t already concluded, but if even Keith Jackson can see it, then Deilas days are already numbered. Not because the hack holds any sort of influence at Celtic Park, but because if he can see it, then those who hire and fire at Celtic Park will have already been whispering about it. It’s as if Deila is determined to make management look like some sort of science but he is not being asked to split the atom here. He is merely being tasked with keeping Celtic ticking over as the strongest team in Scotland and right now he’s falling a long way short. Which, in fairness to Keith is exactly what most of us have been thinking, and questions now have to be asked of the manager, questions such as
” What the **** are you playing at ? “

In the main, what Ronny and Jonny appear to be doing is improving -or trying to improve-the players eating, sleeping and drinking habits. There is nothing wrong with that in principle. In fact, done correctly, it could well improve their performances. A previous manager, Gordon Strachan , arguably got exceptional performances from largely ordinary players by improving their fitness, citing the adage that “tired minds make tired decisions, ” and the concentration of his players, especially in Europe, was astonishing, more than once performing above their weight.

So, on balance, improving their fitness is a good idea, but theres a reason as to why when we join a gym, alright, when you join a gym, ( you wouldn’t catch me anywhere near one, I have my own rigid fitness regime, up one two and then the other sock ) you have a personal trainer, someone who regulates your fitness programme to your needs and physique. Actually, when I did once venture into a gym, I put my finger through a hole in my trainer and had to sign on a register for a couple of years. Anyone with a bit of common sense-no pun intended-can surely see that the likes of Kris Commons should be on a different diet and exercise routine than say, Eoghan O’ Connell.

A blanket ban on carbs and sugar, to quote Jacksons article again, if true, is ridiculous. Its like someone gave Deila the Ladybird Book of Things that Are Bad For You If Taken in Excess, and he’s using it as his starting point to create an all running , all passing superfootballer, when in fact, he’s created some six foot headless chickens, who probably sneak downstairs at midnight, open a packet of fruit gums, and eat them behind the garden shed.

Although the Norwegian has probably banned garden sheds as well, in case anyone nips out for a *** during the ads on Coronation Street. Deila still has time to change things, to adopt a wee bit more maturity, and dare I say, improve his people skills before he becomes the unicorn who stood on the beach, watching a big boat disappear over the horizon, and saying to his pal ” Oh, bollocks, was that today ? “ Perhaps there was some evidence in these words from the boss that he really is lowering expectations…
“We stuck together as a team in 90 minutes to win the game,” said Deila.
“The game was brought back to 1-1 and that was difficult to come back again.
“But we did it, we kept them away from our goal for the last 20 minutes, and that was positive.”

Keeping a side who have won one game this season away from your goal is not really a positive worth shouting about.

<doh>

Keith Jackson ffs

He does seem to have a bit of the John Barnes syndrome about him, I'm left scratching my head most of the time he does anything.

I don't think he's up to it.

Thursday we play the best side we'll play all year, I'll see how he fairs in that game.

What about Red Bull Salzburg? They're the seeded team Tam. We got a decent result there although I admit we were no great shakes, but Rome was'nt built in a day, 4 months is hardly enough time to make a judgement is all i'm saying. And before some smart Alec says 5 months is, I feel we should give him at least a season or we will be back to square 1 with hardly a ball kicked in anger.

I cannae speak for bams but I'm OK with what he's doing broadly.

The substitutions do provide head-scratching and it's fair to criticise that.

In fairness, Broon coming back is the best thing that could've happened to the team - Saturday was messy but, without Broon, that Celtic midfield would've got stomped on by a pretty tough tackling St Mirren midfield.

I just wish that someone would sit between him and Collins on the bench - I have zero problem with Collins coaching the team but I have major issues if he's having a tactical input as he's proven with Hibs that he's a tactical clownshoe.

Agreed some of the Substitutions are a bit baffling but I put that down to experimentation, there's no way of really testing the players apart from playing them so I can live with that.

According to some of these Bams we should get shot of Ronny right away, personally I think most of these fannies don't have a clue and are simply repeating the utter ****e that people like Keevins and Guidi are peddling. "The job's too big for him".

Strange they think the job's too big for Deila but Super Ally is beyond criticism.

I think this team are better than red bull, it might come together yet, it wasn't until mid October that Lennons Texan in his second season starting to click so there is time but that doesn't mean there isn't concern.

I would have probably got us into the champs league but my cv was dismissed, would have done it for free too.

Of course. It shouldn't take that long to get your ideas across. The players just aren't responding to him.

I agree it does not take long to get ideas across but as Neil Lennon, Gordon Strachan, Martin O'Neil and many others have found out the players don't always do as they are told on the pitch. Tonev, Scepovic, Guidetti, Wakaso and Berget will all need time to settle and the club is going though a major reshuffle, these things and many other intangibles take time and I don't expect to see a miracle occur before my eyes in the space of a few months.

Plenty of other managers have spent fortunes on players and they too are struggling to cope, I don't see why Celtic should buck the trend and hit the ground running, and besides, the team are doing okay so far, all i'm saying is there is no need to hit the panic button as some are doing. It's not as if we are not making chances or looking bad in the SPFL, we've beaten our main rivals Aberdeen and Dundee Utd and we faced a Motherwell side with 10 at the back but still managed about 20 shots on goal, on any other day we would have beaten Inverness comfortably too and we beat a fancied Hearts side 3-0 in the league cup, a competition in which we have been abysmal for a few years, so I do see positives.

What worries me is that he still hasn't sorted the defence out. That needs to be his priority.

He's no choice but to play Ambrose at RB, the other right backs are injured. Apart from that I wouldn't change a thing, Denayer and VVD look a solid partnership...mostly. Gordon has been excellent and Izzy has at last come on to a game.

When we get Matthews and Lustic back we should be better, bearing in mind we've conceded 6 goals (no more than 1 goal conceded per game) we still have the 2nd best Defensive record in the SPFL.

Think last night result at Ibrox might help him , now that really is what you call a dud of a manager . Radio clyde was in full swing with their idiots on the phone line . Think its a matcher who's worse

If only Harry, if only. Ally needs more time according to some in the MSM, it's a pity they are unwilling to afford Ronny the same leeway.

I am happy to give him time but some of the performances have been a shambles. at the back we look woeful. the bomb scare at right back is a frightening sight and izzy is extremely suspect defensively. with no holding midfielder we are extremely exposed defensively.

stokes playing wide left <doh>

I was however thinking about this seasons squad in comparison to last seasons and would have to say I think we have a better squad this year

ronny has been unlucky with injuries at RB with lustig, Matthews and fisher all injured at the same time.

in my opinion he needs to give Griffiths a run and perhaps think about a different formation which would give more cover as the 2 2 4 11 does not seem to be working so well

Are we actually discussing Celtic here? Not used to this. I'm off to Rangers Media for a bit.

The signings mostly can't be blamed on him - I believe he indicates which areas he needs strengthened and then gets players delivered from Lawwell and John Park. Fair enough we need defenders but we also needed a striker, and we still haven't replaced Wanyama or Ki from midfield (remember none of us were that upset at selling Ki because we had better options!!).

Anyway, bizarre subs and Ambrose in the team will get him the sack.
