At least he sounds like he has a strategy. Time will tell if the strategy works, but we have time - we'll still win the league and doing anything Europe is a bonus.

Though, he actually sounds like an excellent Number 2 - get the boys into shape and leave the match days decisions for the MON types...

I agree with him, if it was any other manager the press would be gobbling (tee hee) his words down like Caviar.

I get what deila is saying, and I know he wants his tactics in place and the team playing the way he wants them, but you also have to work eith what you have. If we dont havd the players to fit his system just now then alter it to get the best out of what you have there. In time bring his own players in and change it.

Playing the beautiful way is a nice idea, but sometimes you just habe to get tge job done

The reaction to Delia suggesting the players need to improve their athleticism has been pretty hilarious. From relatively intelligent( you would assume ) writers who seem unwilling to concede that if a player can cover 100 meters in 10 seconds rather than 15 regularly during a match, or cover more distance/ create more movement/close down the opposition more regularly .. etc and do this without tiring toward the end of a game, they will be more effective players --- to McAvennie and DJs heartfelt pleas of " aw Ye cannas tell the boiys the canapé huv chips an' that".

And ... Did you know that Fergie sometimes gave his players a wee bowl of chips and it created a bond ?

Sutton was moaning about Ronny needing to concentrate on tactics instead of obsessing over fitness....

Hawd on...the point of being extremely fit is so that you are able to take part in the sort of tactics Ronny had chosen

And the only people obsessing about fitness are the fat ****s in the papers

I don't think Neil Lennon was by any means a tactical genius, but I think he was streetwise and very fallible, constantly deriding himself for his obvious flaws. That's the thing about the painfully self aware, they are constantly looking for their own flaws before someone else finds them, and they tend to be very fluid in adjusting for their own deficiencies.

The problem with introducing a top down philosophy is you run the risk of it becoming dogmatic, whereby Ronny could blame the players on not adjusting to his system - rather than him having any incentive to adjust the system to work with the players he has. Again I hope it works for him, but I'm just worried about a single minded person having ready made excuses (in fat Scottish players not being good enough for him, rather than vice versa...).

Yes and while you might win slimmer of the year for that 10k a week it still wouldn't make you able to play tactically aware football.

Spend too much time obsessing over fitness, like a dogmatic *****, and I imagine you miss many of the other important aspects of being a manager, is what I'm saying.

To some extent I would see it as a valid point though - not so much excuse. It is quite mind-boggling that players arent the best athletes they can possibly be and knock off from training about lunchtime to go do their own thing rather than practice more or learn about tactics etc... Especially with the potential rewards on offer and short career span It fits neatly into my theory that one of the main problems with scottish football is that it is mostly played, managed and commentated on by morons.

    Imagine Kris Commons super fit

Yeah Celtic would in effect be Arsenal but only if Ronny is dogmatic but I don't see it

I've bought in to Ronny's fitness speak and it's only after sitting up drinking a **** load last night that I began philosophising over the possible single-track rigidity of such a stratetgy. Anyway, just to overcook my point, if he manages to get the players performing more athletically, whilst learning some tactical nuance (stop making mental subs!) I'll be happy.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has introduced a string of changes at the club's Carrington training HQ, including triple training sessions

What? Is he stupid...imagine trying to instill a fitness mindset into his players.

    It will never work.
