Joe Allen has a release clause that he knows about. Which contract clause is tighter? The Release clause or the Non-purchase clause (which contradicts the EU's Freedom of movement for workers Policy?). Liverpool Needs Joe allen, Rodgers knows the player very well so that link works

Football has it's loyal players but seriously, if you look at what Allen is on the verge of being a part of... that's a big deal. Your pre-season game at Colorado rapids attracted 6,500 fans. Our reserves against Toronto (most 1st teamers still on holiday) attracted over 30,000 fans.


I genuinely wish you guys all the best next season and I would love it if you qualified for europe and won a domestic trophy but if you can honestly say that hand on heart you would have turned down Liverpool to stay at Swansea you need to think again and think about things like the future of your family as Allen will now be set for life

We need 8 domestics - Williams, Graham, Britton, Dyer, Routledge, Taylor, Sinclair .... Monk, Moore, Lita, Tate, Gower, Obeng. I think Jazz is still considered U-21 and so wouldn't count, but I'm not when this season's cut-off is. We may lose Sinclair. So unless we're going to keep some of the lesser players around we're going to have acquire at least one.

If you have a read of the threads on Joe, Bozz, I think you'll find at least 95% of Jacks totally understand why Joe would want to move to Liverpool and ditto Rodgers.
What I and others have a hard time understanding is why Rodgers went back on his word about 6 weeks after leaving...he was supposed to leave us alone for 12 months. HIS WORDS.
 
terrowit.... It was joe that made it plain he wanted to go well before rodgers left, in fact if we had believed jinks at the time he said no approach was made for rodgers. It was kenny who made it known that he was interested in him. You cant blame rodgers that joe was going to go to liverpool regardless of a gentleman's agreement, nobody could stop him going once liverpool agreed the full buy out clause..and do you know that even if liverpool would not go to the full £15 million and stood their ground on £12 million joe would still have gone. he would have slapped in a transfer request that jinks could not turn down because liverpool are a bigger club and nobody can stop a player from moving to a bigger club if the player wants to go....so we should be thanking rodgers and not slating the man for persuading liverpool to pay the full price because if it went to a tribunal with joes blessing we would be lucky to have got half the money.....

You say Allen wanted to go when Kenny started scouting him - someone on here claims to be close socially with Allen and stated that he was unsure. Also Kenny was removed from his post for overspending on average British players. Allen is at Liverpool now because Rodgers was appointed and wants him. Do you think a continental manager would have chosen Joe at that price? I don't.

You state that we should be grateful to get the full release clause - Jenkins has shown before that he is prepared to let a player sit out his contract in the reserves if he feels the deal is bad for Swansea. Is it any coincidence that in the last 5 years the only first team players that we have sold has been Scotland to Martinez and Allen to Rodgers.
The deals went through because both ex-managers had inside information in my opinion.
As Allen had just signed a new improved contract (3 year deal wasn't it?) of course Liverpool had to meet the release clause. It was insulting that they dicked us about, trying to get Joe to force the issue, and dragging it out for weeks....we'd have a replacement by now, we kick off in a week!

"nobody can stop a player from moving to a bigger club if he wants to go" - I refer you to Derby County and Ferrie Bodde.

If it went to a tribunal surely the amount Liverpool have recently paid for young British players would be taken into account. £15 million is cheap compared to Henderson and Downing.

He pissed down our neck and told us it was raining (after the nice guy act when leaving and reassuring us that he'd agreed not to come back for our players within 12 months.....there are literally hundreds of players all over Europe and South America that are capable of keeping possession for Liverpool, he just had to keep his word for 12 months! The fact he paid £15 million for Allen rather than cheaper options shows how much he felt he needed Allen in particular.....which means he never meant to stick to the agreement).

Yes, I know he was instrumental in getting us to the Premier but just for one second remember where he was when we gave him the job.
He's not the messiah. He's ambitious (that's good) and ruthless (not so good) and he doesn't know the meaning of the word loyalty (unforgivable).
 
I know for a fact that Craig Bellamy was instrumental in Allen going to Liverpool, he was helping with transfer during the Olympics. He admitted it in the meet the fans up there, I know as my mate who is bluebirds fan was there. Also he wants the swans relegated as he wants Cardiff to look down on us, though I suspect that is tongue in cheek ;)
 
Terr..what i am saying is what was told to me by one of my great long term friends at the end of season dinner i attended with the swans who without naming him is a coach at Swansea.....Joe was informed that Liverpool wanted him before the season had finished...its true mate.....

This is true, but Rodgers was directly asked about an agreement not to come in for our players and he confirmed it publicly. He did not say "with some provisos" or "with certain exceptions". There was an agreement, formal or otherwise and it was reneged upon.

If this was not the case it would be difficult to explain Swansea's terse comment about it when the first bid was made. It was clear to everyone that HJ was not happy. I have been one of Rodgers's biggest supporters on here and my posts have reflected this, but for that he's a **** as far as I'm concerned.

But great to win games 5-0 and 3-0 and have 15 million in the bank. Of course we're better offer. But I'm sure you still think we're wrong and will be relegated.

Not sure where you got the bit about not winning games. We are winning. Maybe we haven't scored enough goals for you.
 
Ouch! <laugh> But he also said we were all trolls and Allen was "going nowhere".

That said, nobody can be right all the time. I always thought this thread was daft though because if a player wants to go there's nothing you can do about it. Now we know that when the £15M clause was triggered it left the Swans powerless so it's not a question of "shouldn't have sold", more a question of "having no choice".
 
Was there a sell on clause in the deal for Joe Allen for when he decides to move to a team with the possibility of winning the league ?
Surely if he has a good season with Liverpool, one of the Manchester clubs, Chelsea or even the 2 Spanish clubs will take a look. I'd love to think of us getting more cash if he moves on for 25 million plus.
 
Could be, ST but I doubt it. £15M was a great deal for us and I can't see us getting any more. I know Allen played well and was MOM last night but I still maintain that whereas if he's given time on the ball he'll spray it around accurately all day, when he's pressed he's far less comfortable. Teams will soon catch on.

Allen will probably be a success at Liverpool and good luck to him, but we've improved as a team since he's gone and that's all I care about.
