To the points just made by Dai and JackDan ... Let me add that price is determined by the market. There was one desperate buyer - BR not Liverpool, who used the resources of Livepool to get what he wanted. As JD pointed out bigger clubs, best we know, were not bidding, not interested, never came calling or when they heard the asking price of the release clause walked away - if true that would speak to over-valuation. It all turned out to be the perfect storm - if BR had not been at Livepool it wouldn't have happened. If BR had gone to Fulhm, let's say, it wouldn't have happened.
nobody else would buy his buy out clause at £15 million that's why no others bothered to join the fight, They obviously dont think he is worth that much.....BR does as he has worked with him and joe was not interested in any other club anyway....I thank BR for paying over the odds for joe and now joe can get better with Brendan than he would under ML......I salute you sir for allowing joe's wishes and good luck to Brendan and his success he will undoubtedly get at Liverpool......
As it happens Rodgers is quoted as saying that he would have paid millions more for Joe Allen. My feelings are mixed. Yes he did slow our play down but he did help ensure that we retained possession and, when we lost it, he was right in there winning it back for us. As Phil says, I haven't seen De Guzman doing that yet and we really did miss Joe's presence in midfield against Stuttgart both in keeping and getting the ball and our usual fluency was missing. However, we know that Laudrup's intention is to make us more direct whilst still retaining our footballing ethic. In that case, perhaps Joe with his safe but sure approach, is not the ideal player for us. He did tend to take the incisiveness, the speed, out of our forward breaks at times. I would have been happy to keep Joe but I'm also happy with £15 million. If that money is used properly it will benefit us immensely. But we do need to bring in a player who not only has ability but possesses Joe's work ethic. De Guzman may or may not step up but in response to Phil's demand for a name to come in, without any knowledge of the European market, I will suggest Mark Davies who we are already looking at, someone I and others suggested we look at when Bolton went down. He is a busy player who always seems to be involved, he can play, tackle and gets a few goals. He would cost £6 million or thereabouts but I think we could do far worse and believe that he would improve with the quality of players around him and the tutorism of ML - a luxury he didn't have at Bolton.
Well it's a story of many twists, that you usually get when a player is tapped up, though you are right pointless keeping a disgruntled player!...........
because what i have seen so far with ML then BR is a far better coach, the players seam to think so too...
Oh right. Then go and support Liverpool. You've done nothing except praise them, Allen and Rodgers to the skies over the last week. Try getting behind OUR team for a change. Just a thought.
So after seeing him only in friendlies you come to this and what players are we talking about here ? I can see from some of your previous posts that clearly you are a Liverpool fan as well superswan , nothing wrong with that but it does get old that they can do no wrong.
Then he is the only person in football who would. As some of the posts above have mentioned, no one else was bidding at 15 mill. The Swans are happy to accept £15 mill so we, as a Club, are happy. Time to move on and support our new recruits.
Steal a car? What a strange reply, anyway I don't steal which is why I am in the USA as I was refused entry into Australia as I didn't have a criminal record. G'day mate.
Swansea City has a great manager in Michael Laudrup. It has a solid chairman and a great backroom/scouting staff. One would hope that the manager & scouts are singing off the same page. Mark Davies looks to be aplayer we've tracked , there are no doubt others out there we've scouted wnd will be recommended to us. Shechter,Flores,Michu,De Guzmann look class players who have been identified by the new managerial team. Losing Joe means Boltons Mark Davies must be signed now though. Lets see Laudrup work with the proven Swansea formula and add his special quality
Whats the big deal about Davies. Is he really that good, or good enough and qualifies as a domestic player.
I've been wondering where we sit with respect to the domestics rule having brought in three non-domestics and lost one domestic.
