Why English?!

To these who are gunning for Redknapp to be manager i ask why?

At West Ham he done an average job with a good team and sound infrastructure, he then went to Portsmouth and done well spending **** loads of money on players aswell as ridiculous wages (with their wage bill he should have been top 4). He then came down here, need i say anymore about that year or so. Then went to Spurs, who already had a very good team and some excellent players, spent yet **** loads more money and still hasn't actually won anything.

So heres my hypothetical question, would you pick a Portuguese manager who has won stuff wherever he has gone, sometimes on a small budget (Porto) or would you rather have an English manager who has never really won alot and also has a very irritating twitch?

Mourinho is the only non-British/Irish manager I would like to see as England boss. Capello's style is very Italian and that is for the obvious reason that he is Italian. We just need a manager who is on the same page as the players.

He's tactically proficient, a very good man manager, and not just respected...but liked by today's players - all very good qualifications for the England job as it stands, going into this tournament.

Didn't David Moyes do this at Everton aswell as now Mancini doing it with City?

Personally I dont think Redknapp is the right person for the job. The best possible manager would Mourinho but that just won't happen imo. I would prefer the manager to be english but only for the same reasons that only english players can play for england other than that i have no issue.

I think Redknapp could do a decent stand-in job for England now we are so close to the tournament as he is a players' man, but is he the political animal required for this thankless (though well paid job). They say that every manager wants to become the international manager, but it's an entirely different job from managing your own club. You have no day to day control of your players or contact with them. Wouldn't suit everybody.

Moyes was eight or nine years ago now, but yes, true. As regards Mancini, reckon anyone could have City up there, including Redknapp. But as the question is why English, I just think that we have a manager who's capable of these feats for the first time in years - why not English?

Hiddink would be great, but he's just a gun for hire; we'd just be one on a long line of national teams he's gone through. When/if England next win something, I wouldn't mind being able to take some glory in it (as obviously it probably won't happen again in my lifetime), knowing that naysayers haven't got the "but your manager isn't English" angle to come at. Harry is relaxed and friendly with the press too - takes one stress out of the job.

As an England fan, I have felt pretty disengaged and unattached to the team for years now. I support them in tournaments, of course, but I feel the foreign managers whose scarves have more personality than they do just act as a further barrier to me connecting to the team. Would be a nice change is all, and he's very capable and on an upwards trajectory.

The question is ......Why an English manager? My answer is why not an English manager? Just not Harry!! In all seriousness if it has to be non English I would at least expect it to be one of the home countries. Someone who at least has maybe played or has been heavily involved with the English game. We do not want us to have a manager that wants us to play the Italian way the Spanish way or Dutch or Portuguese. We didn't do so bad when we played the English way years ago. Agreed the game has moved on but so have our best players.We are any match for any team in the world we just have to believe it...........

I am not hell bent on an English Manager, but I would prefer one who could speak english and would live in this country for the duration of his/her contract. It would also be beneficial if the next manager had worked in the English game and had an appreciation of the dynamics of football in this country!

Why would Mourinho want the England job? Why would anyone want the England job? Give it to Harry if he wants it so my caring for the English national team can sink even lower. The only positive I can see from it is when he fails maybe the media will stop loving Harry and we might not have to put up with that ****y cockney anymore.

Come on Alex mate that is a bit harsh.......We do have some good honest English players. We just haven't had a manager that is used to the English way of football. Because of that he doesn't IMO get the best out of the lads when we do play as he is always trying to get natural born players to play out of position or in some sort of set up that doesn't suite the players own style. In other words picking the wrong men to do that job.
