Can't disagree with that. The place has its uses.

If Liverpool manage to drag themselves up the table and challenge for titles in the future then they may start to develop a rivalry with City, like they developed with Chelsea during the Mourinho period, but City will have to win a whole lot of trophies before the rivalry even approaches that of Utd.
I don't know how much of this is true, but I remember having a conversation with my great grandad along these lines. For him the rivalry started as friendly banter between Catholics. Again, he said that in the 30s a disproportionate no of united fans were catholic, as were a large proportion of Liverpool fans.
His view was always that the rivalry was about who was the biggest catholic team in the north west, and he used the catholic link to explain the relationship between Liverpool and Celtic.
I'm sceptical as I think you can argue that either Liverpool or Everton were catholic and protestant after the split, and my great grandads version is just that, his version. Whether its right or not, it explains why he and my Grandad, andtheir friends, believed the rivalry was there, success came later on.
Religion is certainly nothing to do with it now.
That's possible- although- we never had much animosity with Arsenal. Liverpool and Arsenal fans (used to) have admiration for each other... in recent years, since Liverpool started having troubles, I've noticed a lot of Arsenal fans have started escalating the rivalry for some odd reason (not just Arsenal fans... a lot of formerly non-rival clubs have started acting cocky and WUMish... kick 'em whilst they're down mentality). Perhaps because our problems make them feel less conscious of their own... but by-and-by despite being strong at similar times- Arsenal and Liverpool have never really hated each other. I still regard Arsenal as a "friend" club and respect them the most of the London clubs.
I'm sure, were we to pick ourselves up to City level (confident its not going to happen in the next 3 years and predicting the future beyond that in football is ludicrous) it is possible that we could develop a fierce rivalry with City... but it could be more like our rivalry with Arsenal- more respectful than heated. Depends on many factors. I don't think Liverpool really holds any animosity to City at all.
I remember when City first came to wealth- the City board on the old 606 was full of people- City fans ecstatic... most rival fans were bashing them for being suddely rich lots of "small club wanting to buy the league comments"- but most Liverpool fans on the City board were congratulating them and pretty much saying "if it isn't us- glad it's you" kind of thing. I found it touching that Liverpool's fans were actively standing up for City at the time... one of those moments proud of being a Liverpool fan- when my fellow Liverpool fans were sticking up for others who were under-siege.
With the Liverpool-Chelsea rivalry it comes down to one factor. Mourinho.
Mourinho actively tried to provoke and annoy Liverpool; his arrogance and "pseudo-nobility" attitude really irked on Liverpool's working class base. If any other manager had presided over Chelsea during their heyday the rivalry between Chelsea and Liverpool might not have been what it is.
There are tales to fit all arguments
KOP
King Over Pope
Everton play in Royal Blue
And the Royal blue mersey song .
But you would love at Liverpool or the vast majority of fans would love him there .
You obviously do or you wouldn't be haunting a Scouse board desperately searching for an identity. We are secure in knowing who we are. We don't give a damn what you think about us. Why is it that the majority of people from the Manchester Metropolitan area are only too quick to disassociate themselves from being from Manchester?

Trying to find an identity eh?
As for the second part I dont really know. I suppose its the opposite in Liverpool or rather on Merseyside. You have a term for the scouse wannabes dont you? Wool is it?
Yep, the term for wannabe scouse is "Manchester United Supporter"
Nah thats wannabe Liverpool.
Manchester United and Manchester United fans have always wanted to be/support the most successful club in England, the only way they can is becoming Liverpool or supporting Liverpool.

so expect the rivalry to increase as more mancs switch to City if they bag another title they will start to take chelski fans too They've wanted so long to achieve as much as Liverpool, for decades, that's why they have turned into total arseholes since getting the 18th.
It's like the guy you beat 99 out of a 100 times playing PES. You win and be quiet about it, but when the guy wins his 1 out of 100 games he's all screaming Yeah and all up in your grill because of the repressed bile of watching you win for so long
We do tend to stick to ourselves mostly as we're all long term fans. Half that lot bought City season tickets this year hence the slow sales of United season tickets![]()

I've heard all that stuff before. Neither Liverpool or Everton have Protestant or Catholic origins, both are actually Methodist clubs. Liverpool were formed by a member of the Orange Order, John McKenna, and Everton originated out of St Domingos Methodist church, hence Everton being formally known as St Domingos.
Liverpool and Everton fans from what I've heard state that their religion is Liverpool and Everton and not Protestant and Catholic. However recently the more Catholic club in Liverpool recently from what I've been made to believe is actually Liverpool.
If the NHS is the greatest demonstration of the civilisation of a nation then the fact that religion has not been allowed to disfigure the support of either Liverpool or Everton has to be a close second.
If the NHS is the greatest demonstration of the civilisation of a nation

They really became arse-holes when they won their 19th. All you hear from a United fan is ''19, 19 ,19''. My response is 35, thats how many years it took them to overtake us on titles. 1976-2011.

Reckon come 2050 Liverpool will still be below 20 and United on their way to number 30
Close to 30? Hmm.... Doubtful.
