i went for simpson, was a toss up between the full backs though.
Maybe if the poll was what is our weakest position i would have gone left back. But taylor offers something different (set pieces) and isnt a natural full back so hard to see he is the weak link.

think when you think of weak links, you naturally think about players who concede goals rather than players who dont create the chances.

Wouldnt say he was "excellent" to the level of Jonas. He tracked back a fair bit but because he was a CM cut inside a lot and left a large gap on the right allowing players to double up on Simpson.

i voted simmo was a toss up between raylor and simmo i don't like the fact our left side is handicapped so to speak but he does bring something that simmo can't to the table
Must admit I thought Barton was excellent defensively, worked his socks off for the team. Always got back in, and though like you say he'd drift inside now and again when we had the ball, I thought he was excellent at grafting back in to give Simpson cover. Certainly working his socks off for QPR and doing a good job for them defensively. Couldn't compare him with Jonas, but then again I think Jonas is possibly the best winger in the world at defending such is his team ethic.
I was only putting Ben Arfa into the picture for left footers really. Rather just have Raylor taking everything. As for Cabaye, i rate him defintely as much as Raylor for freekicks. He took them for Lille (as Marveaux did a lot for Rennes), but Cabaye has great technique. Its not as if everyone Raylor hits is dangerous, he still hits the wall or skies them plenty of times. Im not saying Raylor is poor at freekicks of course, im just saying that we easily have replacements if thats the only thing keeping him in the starting eleven.
As for the whole Jonas thing, since Raylor has played at LB he's been a lot more defensive. You cant say thatâs just how he plays as he got forward a lot more last season and times before that. I think it was somethig like 70% of our play come down the left hand side. In my eyes he can attack and defend, but without having a fullback that links up with him nicely in attack and someone he can rely on for defensive duties, he just seems to stay back.
You also cant just say itâs the way we play because Obertan doesnât play the same way at all, yet Simpson is no better than Raylor. Ideally both fullbacks would be replaced eventually, but it'll take time to introduce them properly. Theyre not long term solutions be any means though. It just depends if their egos are too big to be squad members.
I would never question his work ethic, he just had a natural tendency to cut inside to his usual position, which often left a gap on the right. Cant blame him though as he'd never played out wide and we should have had a more natural RW playing there.
