You wouldn't be able to tell from their helmet design either as it was not the one the ended up racing with for several years after.
the only driver I can remember being much of a surprise was Larini, but that was much later, Alboretto and Johnason drove in the mid 80's from what I remember, so one of them I guess.
hmm, Alboreto was fairly decent as I recall, so I'll plump for Johanson, as you said it was a surprise.
