I'm not disputing he was offside when the ball was played, just that he was onside when Kaboul touched the ball, so if the rules state this is ok, then there's no problem. Like I say, I don't know the rules in their entirety.
I've read around 15 different explanations of it now and not a single one mentions the defender playing the ball before the attacker - the only change appears to be what I highlighted above. Can;t find anything mentioning the defender and the relevance of a defender playing the ball

The result of this game seems to have skewed some opinions on your team somewhat.

The same pattern is emerging, the untouchables are immune from criticism, just like at the beginning of last season. Advocaat is to blame for your result in my opinion, yet his god like status that has developed over the summer appears to be offering some form of barrier for him. He got it wrong, horribly. He's supposed to be a manager right at the top of his game and he sat and watched Leicester pick you off in that first half.

For a 'General' he never did a very good job at reorganising his troops given the start Leicester made, they come out of the blocks much faster, much more alert and much hungrier, yet Advocaat never spotted it and failed to park the bus to weather the storm, he simply hoped that his stag would outmuscle Ranieri's and he got what he deserved.

When he eventually woke up, the performance was a lot better and you actually 'won' the second half of the game. People are pointing fingers at individual players here, saying they're **** or they're amazing based on the back end of last season (Just like the status Wickham held around this time last season) but it's a team sport, there was one person to blame off the pitch (DA) and one on it, your captain, who should have been rallying a team that were being punished, reorganising them and putting out fires collectively, instead they chose to hide adn therein lies the real reason why John O'Shea is your club captain.

I'm not talking about the new rules mate, just the offside rule in general. No worries mate, it's not going to change anything. Just trying to ascertain if the goal was legal in the eyes of the law or not.

Well we had Adam Johnson given offside last year from a show which hit a defender on the edge of the box and ricocheted to him near the corner flag! So not entirely sure as if seems to be different from one week/team to the next!

They've tinkered with it too much mate, that Mirallas goal vs United last season just summed up how ****ed the rule is for me. Great defending, marking Lukaku offside then he strolls through the back door like a sneaky pervert!

As ol' big 'ead said - if you're not interfering with play what are you doing on the pitch!! Offside should be offside - if you are an active player (i.e. not injured) then you should be offside if you are there - would stop the players strolling back and give them a kick up the arse!

Absolutely spot on. Matthews has only played half an hour!! Kaboul's a beast and despite a couple of errors still did some very good things yesterday.
I have reservations about Coates but think he's young enough for signing him at that price to be a reasonable gamble.
The problem on Saturday was that they were massively exposed because we had a woeful midfield who offered no protection what so ever. Our midfield trio are the worst in the league and will get us relegated. Catts, Seb and Rodwell not good enough, van arnholt did have a disaster by the way.

If you're so involved that you score a ****ing goal surely you're offside??! They've over complicated a great rule with this stupid 'phases of play' rubbish.

I agree the centre backs were exposed but don't include Larsson in the blame particularly. The full backs were exposed too by our narrow midfield. Against width like that we either need to dominate the ball or match up 442, which is what DA later did.

You're misreading what I'm saying.
I'm saying Defoe struggles to play as a lone striker. The system favoured by DA doesn't suit Defoe very well, he prefers to play in a front two.
If we had a target man instead, it'd mean we keep the ball better as s team, higher up the pitch. It'd allow our full backs and Lens to get in behind their defence and to the byline. In this case Defoe would be an option from the bench (or against certain opposition) to change things to a 2 striker system.
Thank you, Dick. I'll put my case down just here....

No way of knowing as yet Bri' untested in the Prem' he did well by all accounts for the under 21s but was tiring and coming off before being sent off. He sounds a few weeks away from being ready.

Well we know we're only after too more, Dick has said so, everything points to an Attacking midfielder and a forward so I guess we're just going to trust Dick the M'Vila is our man.

I've just asked SKY on Twitter to analyse it on MNF, explain why it wasn't offside under new laws

Coates blew tepid and freezing last year and yesterday it wasn't particularly warm. He simply is no where near better than either Brown or OShea. Kaboul was awful. Did we watch the same game? He was directly at fault for that pathetic clearance which led to the killer goal and positional lay all over the place. PVA did him no favours by his poor performance but he did not impress me at all. I expected him to disappoint and he lived up to that expectation totally. Mathews I saw for 40 odd mins and he is no better or worse than Jones. All the defense looked poor if I'm being honest And all at sea. I heard the words 'quality signings' when Dick came back. Lens is at least better but the others are not and hoping they are won't make it so.

Our recruitment thus far has been woeful but I'll happily eat my words if we bring in another 3 top class acquisitions in the next 20 days. But bit part loans and cheap second raters will only exacerbate my ire.

Absolute bollox ....... it makes me wonder if you're actually a Sunderland supporter at all.

You hardly ever post but here you are with one after another and loving it.

It's so easy to whinge on all the time then change your username to Cest Wembley when it suits you.

Anyone can support the club when we do summat ........... never mind, if we do well this season you can always trot out your usual bullshit.

"Yes I called the club worse than shyte but no one's more pleased than me to be proved wrong ................so don't remind me of all the criticism and lets all celebrate together like the true faithful Sunderland supporters we all are."

I don't have to justify myself to you about my support of my club at all and my opinions are just that. My opinions.

I'm not excited by Mathews, Kaboul and Coates as three of our major signings so far. Lens is good and M'Vila will be a wildcard. A very wild one by the sounds of it.

We are way short of what we need and time is running out. We got stuffed by a very average Leicester team who could have scored 6 or 7 But it's not like we couldn't see it happening is it.

What should my response be? Oh great same again next week please?

Does my critique of our club also preclude me from enjoying the small amount of good times? Must I just accept everything without question in order to go to Wembley every 20 years or so? What a ridiculous thought.

I regularly post when I'm happy with things and when I'm not. Sadly most recently there has been scant positives and a plethora of negatives to debate.

Unless we show the powers to be that the current situation is just not good enough and voice our concerns the club won't change. We are after all fans of a football club not some insular religious sect that puts down critics and burns heretics.

I don't give a shiney shyte what you do ....... you just love whinging.

You don't post for ages then jump up on your soapbox when you know everyone's pissed off and will agree with you.

Yet, if we do anything you're suddenly Sunderland's greatest fan and always have been.

You're so transparent it's pathetic ......... this latest post is the same one you've been trotting out for a decade.

You don't give a flying ****e yet constantly take the time and effort to comment about my opinions? Interesting.

Talking about a one dimensional poster, have you looked in the mirror recently?
